Default Picky Doc

I WANT to be on metformin. But the doctor I currantly have does not want to put me on it because my husband and I are not TTC. I think that is a ridiculous reason. How do I go around this? I cant change doctors so easily due to it being a military doctor. Do I go back in tell him im DONE with birth control pills and to put me on metformin? Im not so sure if that would work. a lot of docs are stuck in their opinion and wont give something that could possibly be better for me a chance. I think im just really frustrated. Ever since the first symptom of PCOS showed up 5 years ago, ive been on and off BCP. and I am SO SO SO sick of them.

your should talk to your doctor about ordering blood work for insulin resistance if he hasn't already, alot of women with pcos are IR. Your doctor might also not be fully aware of benefits that met can provide to women with pcos. Ask your doctor why they think met is only a medication to be used when ttc and not just for management of symptoms. there is also alternatives to met. there is a whole section of the forums dedicated to alternatives.

Thank you
I am just overall irritated with the situation because the first time I went in the doc I had was like a fill in and was all for getting me an updated u/s, getting blood work done then hopefully getting me on metformin. Then of course when the u/s follow up come by ive got my reg doc and he says NO. I almost wanted to lie and say we are TTC, but im not much of a liar. I just changed my doctor though. SO hopefully next appointment will go the way I want it. I feel weird trying to take charge seeing as Im NOT the doctor. But its my body and I have heard GOOD things and I am just so badly wanting good thing lol. Im sure others can relate

I was going to say to lie and say you're TTC.

My doctor didn't want to put me on it either, so I started eating an extremely low glycemic index diet (essentially South Beach). Then, the one month I went off the low GI diet, I O'd really late - and I convinced her I didn't O because of the diet, and she put me on met.

You can always try the diet, and if it works for you you'll have an argument for your doctor.

I wish more doctors listened to their patients....we're in a service industry, after all....
