Yesterday was the National Share Office's "A Walk to Remember" event in St. Louis. I took 4 pictures (would have taken more but the camera battery was about to die) and thought I'd post them here.
I wish I had taken pictures of my parents, and also of George Canyon performing "My Name." (Song written from the perspective of a baby that passes away in utero.) The weather was PERFECT and it was a very nice event. For those of you familiar with "The Lou", the walk took place in Forest Park, with the ceremony starting at the Muny's upper parking lot and grounds and both Walks (the 1.3 and 3.0 mile walks) both starting and ending there.
We did the 1.3 mile walk because I wanted to take it easy. My parents came, one of DH's aunts came with her dog, the in-laws came (which really surprised us, but in a good way), and 2 of my friends joined us. There were lots of families there and lots of people brought their pets. My parents know the founder of SHARE and enjoyed catching up with her for a few minutes, although she was really busy and didn't have a lot of time to linger.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b213/saluki_fan/AWalktoRememberBalloonRelease.jpg - the balloon release. If you registered by August 19th, you could opt to have your child's name read during a part of the program. DH and I choose not to release balloons because it's bad for the birds - MIL released one, though. There were just too many balloons in the air...it was very moving.
Saluki - I think the pics are beautiful. The one with all the balloons brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for posting them.
P.S. - I think your little belly looks so cute!! Your glowing. I would put a cute smiley face but I can't seem to find one.

Thank you Cassidy! I was trying to kind of cover it up yesterday, because there were surely women there who were very "fresh" in the grieving processes, but I guess it showed a bit more than I thought. When i had the fleece pullover thing on I don't think you could really tell. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to look!
Congratulations on a great walk. These kinds of activities are great tangible things for our hearts to hold onto, and I'm very happy that it was a nice day and was shared with so many loved ones. You should be very proud of all of your hard work, too!

The pictures were great! I've only been to St. Louis once, so I couldn't picture where the walk was, but it looks like it was a beautiful day and a very pretty place to walk through. I'm going to have to see if I can find the words to that song you mentioned online... it sounds like it would make me cry a lot. Thanks for sharing, and thanks for participating in such a wonderful cause!
Artist : George Canyon
Title : My Name
Genre : Country
It's cold in here
Feels like everything's upside down
I can feel you talkin'
But I can hardly make out the sound
And I've been kickin' around these parts
Feels like a year
And I'm going to change this world
If I ever get out of here
She wants to dress me in pink
Paints my bedroom blue
And I just laugh to myself
'Cause only I know the truth
This love is my only emotion
Haven't learned any fear, any shame
It's kind of funny with all this commotion
Guess they've got me to blame
They don't even know my name
They don't even know my name
Well, I've never felt so ready
Think it's finally time
Cause that big ol' world is waiting
And it's mine, all mine
Just then everything got real quiet
And it got real bright
And a man took my hand, said don't worry
Your Mama's going to be alright
Then he opened the gate
And I followed him in
Said you can wait right here
'Til it's your turn again
His love is the one true emotion
Heaven knows no fear, no shame
Never got to set my wheels in motion
But they loved me just the same
They didn't even know my name
They didn't even know my name
You love me just the same
And you didn't even know my name
Yes, very beautiful lyrics. I shouldn't have read them all (becauase now I'm crying at work), but I did and I thought they were so good. Thank you for posting those, Viv.

I cried during the song. It was really hard. The performer was very good. I'm not a HUGE country music fan (although I think it's OK for the most part) but I think I'm going to buy his CD. I want to support him after he performed! I heard that he refused to take payment, other than travel and payroll costs, which to me is just amazing.
I have never heard of that song, but I dont listen to country music either. But it was very beautiful. I am going to see if I cant find it anywhere on the net so I can hear it.
