Thumbs up Pilates Exercises

Hey all, I found this on Ladies Home Journal. It is a set of 6 basic and 6 intermediate Pilates exercises. It tells you how to do them and has a little video that shows you exactly what to do. There are also some more exercises listed on the left hand side of the page.

Hi Jana,

I have the winsor pilates tapes, and with my fitness level as low as it is right now- I can't do it. I am working on it, but would be interested in hearing other's experiences with this form of exercise.

Hi, well I've not tried the Pilates yet. I found this site this morning and printed them off. I'm going to do them for awhile and if I like them and start getting results I would like to buy the Windsor Pilates. Right now all I am doing is walking/jogging but I want something different to do so I can mix it up a little.

Newbride i have been doing pilates for about 3 and a half years now. Its really hard to start with and i would recommend doing it at least twice a week to start with even if its for 10 or 15 minutes then build up. Most excercises can be adapted to make them easier. Just do what feels comfortable for you. After a few weeks you will really feel the difference. Your core strength and posture is improved and you will find it easier to do. Its particularly good if you have any back problems. I broke my neck a few years ago and was told i wouldnt be able to manage to do certain things. Between Pilates, swimming and yoga i am now like a normal person again and even competed in my first triathlon last April

Good luck

Em

I think you'll really like it. When you first start, it's pretty low-impact, but as you get better and start to really take notice of its principles (like concentration, precision and such) you'll find that you can flow from one exercise to the other, then you'll find that you can increase the rate at which you perform the exercises so it not only becomes a strength/flexibility exercise but it becomes aerobic (more or less) as well.

Joseph Pilates would say something to the effect of, "You can feel a difference after 10 sessions, see a difference after 20 sessions, and after 30 sessions, everyone will see a difference."

Also, pilates doesn't make you sore like other exercises.

Good Luck!
