Unhappy The pill and depression

I'll try to make this long story short. As my sig will tell you, I have recently been diagnosed with PCOS. I've had symptoms forever, and in 1998, I had a non-stop period. I didn't have insurance to do lots of tests or an u/s, so the gyn just put me on the pill. 4 years later I had insurance and decided to go off the pill to see what was really wrong with me. I knew about PCOS and suspected I may have it. Well, this week, an u/s tech told me my ovaries resemble swiss cheese.

ANYWAYS, the pill was masking all the symptoms of PCOS (I didn't have cysts until several months after stopping the pill, hair is growing darker on face, acne started up again, etc). I didn't make this connection until today, but I realized if I traced back my depression, it goes back to last August (one month after stopping the pill). That was when I started having unexplained bouts of depression. So, my question is this - is this a valid connection? Was the pill making me less depressed? If I go back on the pill, will I start feeling better?

Thanks for sharing any experiences you may have with this!

Amora,
{{Hugs!}}
You sound miserable, girl! I would definitely think that in your case, the pill is very helpful. Have you asked this question on the bcp forum? They might have similar experiences. If you are controlling other symptoms with the pill, depression might go right along with them. I hope that the metformin eventually gets you evened out, or combining the two is still acceptable for your family planning. Good luck feeling better, I know the wacky hormones make it really hard!
Your cyster,
Sheri

Since the pill regulated your hormones, it makes sense to me that it could have been helping with your depression. Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance. It sure would be worth checking into. If it didn't work, you could always go back off the pill. Hope you can find some relief, soon. Lendi
