Smile The pill or prometrium???

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting here, but i have been reading a lot on the boards and found a lot of helpful info. I've been dealing with pcos for about 3 years now, im 18 and have always been put on the pill so i get my period. I stopped for a while---so of course no period for almost a year but my doctor put me on prometrium to get it going again before putting me back on the pill. I really don't like being on the pill, I gain weight and it makes me break out terribly, i've tried orthotricyclen lo, aleese, and now i'm on estrostep. I've only been on estrostep a month and a half and have gained 15 pounds...uggg. My question is do you think it would better for me to be on the prometrium instead, I had no side affects from it but I was just wondering what would be better for pcos?? Thank you for your replies, i would really appreciate any advice.

Default A vote for Prometrium...

Hi kitcat,

Welcome to soulcysters. I'm sure you'll continue to find a lot of great info here! I've been taking Prometrim since Feb. and have had a lot of success with it, basically AF (Aunt Flo=a period) every month I've been on it! Since Prometrium is a natural form of progesterone it acts like the progesterone that would be in your body anyway.

As far as pcos symptoms, weight gain, acne, etc Prometrium is not going to control that, but in my opinion, it won't aggrevate it either like a bcp could.

Feel free to pm me if you have any other questions...

Take care,
NJCyster

Umm I took Prometruim ONE month!! And since then I have had a period actually I had 2 in August and so far this month I have been cramping like but haven't started yet and my last one was on the 23rd so maybe with it being the 17th I may be starting soon! I have an OB appointment actually on Friday..and go from there but I was very impressed with the pill (PROMETRUIM)...he said to take it ONLY if I didn't start and so far after the jump start I haven't had to take it yet but it's possible that I may have to go another round this next month...ok I am blabbling>>>>>>> I say try it!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!!!!!
