Default please answer question

My daughter is 20 and through blood work was diagnosed with PCOs. Her only side effect or symptom of this syndrome is skipping a month or month and a half with her period. She did not want the side effects of the pill since she does not have the common problems associated with PCOS. It seems that during the summer when she is home from college she does get her period every month at approx. every 36 days or so. I know that not having a regular period could cause uterine cancer in the future. How many times a year should you have a period to be lessen the chances of uterine cancer. Is it still okay to skip a month or two and be healthy? Also, I'm from the old school of thinking that the heavier the period the more likely she ovulated or that it's getting rid of all the build up. I've read somewhere that not really true. My daughter mostly gets very light periods. Does this mean she did not ovulate or is not really having a true period. Thank you for answering some of my concerns for her.

When I was diagnosed with PCOS they told me that the very HEAVY periods I was having were caused by not ovulating. I also had periods only every 2-3 months, they were extremely heavy when I had them, and they lasted up to a month sometimes. My doc wants me to have a period every month. If your daughter does have PCOS and does not want to take the pill, maybe she could take metformin? I have regular periods on metformin alone.

hey there im 19 almost 20... From what ive learnt its okay not to have one for a month or two.. but just so long as you do have one every now and then. someone told m,e that when your in like the army they stop em completley and their docs think thats fine?!>? Cant say i agree with taht but i dont see the harm in missing one here and there. She should probally check with her doc if shes concered. Great to see such a supportive mom on here My mom knows zippo about my pcos

Hi & good on ya mum for finding out some info!
Apparantly having light periods can be common of pcos can't remember where I read it or why coz I've read so much stuff but i have read it I too have light periods most of the time when I have them.
you should have a period evry three months is whats recommended but can be somewhat contraversial too but most dr's recommend 3 mths.
Your daughters symptoms sound like how mine started mine have now gotten a lot worse but I think thats due to the fact of me gaining so much weight!
Diet & excersise are so important with pcos & I wish I had've paid attention to that lil detail yrs ago cos being bigger has made my symptoms a lot worse.
I don't think it matters what your menses is like coz pcos is so confuzing I've never heard of that being a way to tell if you ovulate??. You can definetly have annovulatory cycles though which mean you don't Ovulate but still have periods.
Metformin Is deffinetly worth a try It can be very benificial to pcos.
I hope the info I have given is helpfull & not confuzing! There are a lot of women that know a lot of stuff so if U have any more questions keep asking!!!
