I would just like to know if its possible for me at my age (25) to have depression?? 'cause it seems according to people here including dr's that i'm a bit young to have a problem like that.....
somedays i'm fine, but mostly i don't feel myself - like today!! i feel so down and i've been crying the most of the morning!!! for no particular reason!! and i feel so negative about everything - being fat, having pcos, struggling to get pregnant, work - argh almost everything!!!! can it be depression?? i hate being like this!!!
your opinion will be much appreciated!!

Honey, depression can come at any age, from the day you're born to the day you die.
You certainly sound like you have the symptoms of depression. Have you considered going to see a professional about it? Even your regular doctor can refer you to a counsellor or therapist.
i was first dxed with depression when i was 14 and i still have to battle it.... that is crazy if they think 25 is too young to have depression... that is like saying young people dont know what real problems are(i had that one told to me a lot cause im young but been through a lot) i would find a mental health professional to work with if you dr doesnt seem to feel like you have depression simply because you are too young
i hope you feel better soon... we are here for you

Depression, at least here in the sates, can get diagnosed really early on in life! I have had depression since I was 11; and I'm still dealing with it on a day to day basis at 23... If at all possible see if there is someone that you can go talk to about your feelings!!
Take care!

25 is definately not too young to have depression. I had gone throught bouts of it off and on since I was about 20, but I refused to believe I had it. I just thought I was moody. When I was 25 my mother in law, who is a therapist, suggested I start on an antidepressant after going through an episode of becoming suicidal. I still refused to believe that I could have it. I didn't want the stigma. Last fall, at age 26, I went through my first episode of major depression requiring hospitalization. Please do not wait until you get to that point before you find help. It was a living hell getting though each day. If you or someone close to you suspects it, please seek out treatment. I cannot even begin to believe the difference on medication. I still have episodes, but nothing close to that extreme.
ronel, you're not to young for depression! i was in my teens when i first started having my first really bad depressive episodes; i was 25 when i first started getting help.
everyone has down "days" and gets blue from time to time, especially with this stupid pcos! if you're having more "bad" days than "good" days, then you need to think about a diagnosis of depression. and if your doctors are not taking your concerns seriously, try to find one who will. depression is a real problem and can be effectively treated.

I knew I was depressed when I would sit at the dinner table and cry for no reason. I was 24 when it started, I am now 28. I went to my doctor and he prescribed Zoloft. I'm not a pill popper but let me tell you, do youself the favor get on something. IT WILL MAKE A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE! I'm no longer on the meds, I slowly weened myself off. I guess you learn how to deal with things in life in a different way as to avoid falling back into the depression. I don't know?? Everyone is different.
I do know you are not alone. See your doctor he will help you!
