Angry Please help!!!

OK, here goes. I was diagnosed today by a doctor that I don't like and who didn't give me very much information or do any blood work, just an ultrasound. He just told me that there was almost no chance of me getting pregnant, and put me on birth control pills. My husband and I want kids, so this information broke my heart. I have gone online and just was overwhelmed by the amount of clinical information that I have found. I just want to know what to expect. Maybe I can get a straight answer from you guys here.

Here is where I am right now. I am 26 years old. I just got married in December. I had been divorced for 4 years and I have a daughter who is 6 with my ex. I have only been having symptoms for about a year, and went into a sliding fee scale clinic last month because I was having pain. The doctor wasn't great with his bedside manner, but he is supposed to be a very knowledgable OB/GYN. I had a miscarriage in January, used birth control for 3 months after that, and haven't gotten pregnant again since.

Has anyone had kids since they were diagnosed? Any good doctors in the St. Louis, MO area? I need help! I am so upset, lost, confused, and angry. Well, at least angry at the doctor. He gave me almost no information, and didn't even listen to my concerns.

The other thing that I wanted to know is, what is a IR diet? I have been gaining weight for about a year. I bought my wedding dress last September. It fit great with a little room to spare. When I had my fittings in November, they had to let it out 2 inches on either side to get it too fit! Is it normal to gain weight in just the hips? I feel like someone has attached a tire around them. I am just so confused now. I am sorry that I am rambling. I have been praying about this for a while now, and I think that finding a support group would probably help. Does anyone know of a good group in the STL? I really like posting too, but sometimes I need someone that I can talk to face to face.

Thanks everyone,
Cheryl

Welcome to SC! There have been many successful pregnancies on this site. Don't lose hope! I definitely have gained weight in the hip area. I definitely know what you mean about the spare tire. Best of luck to you while ttcing!

Maybe you should get on a medication that matches your symptoms. The Pill isn't designed for PCOS or to treat your symptoms, why did he put you on it? to me it sounds like you should get an extra oppion from an Endocronologist or a Gyno in you area who at least is familiar with PCOS and the medications associated with it. you can concieve even with PCOS, it's just harder. Try asking around on the Trying To Concieve board.

Insensitive Docs need to be changed!
I went to this gynec who first diognised me - she put me on Diane 35 w/o telling me what I had, or what to expect, nothing.
When I read it up, I freaked on the information overdose and decided to try Homeopathy. After going to the homeopath for two years, she said... Oh but you're never going to have kids. I can't tell you how devastating that was. I switched back to my old gynec and Diane-35 and then developed cataracts as a side-effect of taking Diane for too long.
In India there is little or no awareness of PCOS. I am so thankful I found the SC website. I have a Dr appointment next week and am going armed with all my research!
I wish you luck.

Hi Cheryl! Welcome to Soulcysters!

The IR diet is basically a way of proportioning carbs and protein that helps with insulin resistance. You may want to check out the diet/exercise forum, they can probably tell you anything you need to know over there!

I too was told I'd never have another child after my second son was born. I am happy to say, they were wrong. Found a new doc, took met, and had a happy healthy daughter. There is hope!

I'm from Champaign-Urbana, so not too far, wish it was closer though. I'm going to talk to my doc when I have my annual exam about starting a PCOS support group around here.

Don't feel bad about "rambling", that's what we're here for, to listen and help!
Hugs cyster

I hope everything works out for you! Definitely see another Dr. and find one who is willing and excited to help! I am currently on Met 2000mg/day thanks to a caring doc. I had an awful experience w/ an uncaring OBGYN, so I know how that can be too! Please feel free to write me if you want to talk!
Babydust to you!

I was dx about 8 years ago (I was around 24)...I went off of BCP to start preparing to get pregnant...Well AF never did show for 8 or 9 months...I diagnosed myself after researching my symptoms on-line. I had my family dr & an OB/GYN tell me I didn't have PCOS because I'm not obese.....Family dr agreed to ordering bloodwork & u/s....GUESS WHAT!? They said I was "border-line"....Border-line? Border-line because I'm not obese?
Anyhow - went to the OB/GYN & he said I had two choices: 1 - Get Pregnant or 2 - Go back on BCP....
I was started on Provera to get my cycle started....Took 1 round of Clomid and mid-way thru I found a book called "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" & learned about taking my Basal Body Temp....
I realized I was not ovulating on the days the Dr said I would....I was actually ovulating a week later....
Round 1 of clomid = No Luck
Round 2 of clomid - Dr increased dosage...Kept track of my BBT & knew my Peak time of ovulation = SUCCESS!
I never went on BCP again after 1st child....
Had baby #2 on my own 4 years later....
Now, here it is, baby #2 is now two & my hormones are a wreck.
I found a new dr at the beginning of August & he started me on 500mg of met & I'll be taking BCP once AF returns....I'll be re-evaluated in 3 months.
There is hope to having a baby! You are still young and that is definately to your advantage!

Hi and welcome

I understand you as I have also been in the hands of some Doctors who really have no sensitivity at all and will only discourage you. PLEASE find a doctor who makes you feel well and who is really interested in helping. I had to see almost all the doctors in my city before finding the right doctor for me, and actually, I see both an Endo and a Gynecologist, each one specialized in their fields.

Blood testing is essential, you will not get much information from ultrasounds in terms of the hormonal balance.

You need to get tested for all your hormones ( including androgens, don´t miss that part, it is important ) and from there it is a good start.

Make sure your gynecologist has also knowledge about endocrinology as sometimes the problem can better be diagnosed and fixed by an Endo.

Good luck !

Thank you so much guys. I am looking for a new doctor now. Tinkerbelle, the doctor did an internal and external u/s. Everyone was really helpful, and I need all the help that I can get. I will go post on the weight loss/ diet board to find out about a diet plan to help me maintain my weight. I just thank God that I had my daughter before all the symptoms started. She's now 6 and the light of my life.

I'm sorry to hear you are going thru a rough time right now...but cheer up, I am living proof that you can get preg after being diag w/PCOS

I got preg for my first......NO PROBLEM... I was not PCOS

My secong I was on Clomid for I think 2 or 3 cycles and successfully preg with second child

My third child again clomid and I think that one was for 1 cycle. It could have been 2 but not more than that.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU

(((HUGS)))

Julie
