I am 22 years old and am getting married in October. When I was a teenager my weight was always up and down. I had a lot of bleeding when I was on my period and severe cramping. At 19 I started to notice that I was getting a lot of facial hair as well as hair on my toes and around my nipples. I was prescribed birth control to help maintain my menstrual cycle. The symptoms seemed to ease. In September of this past year I went off of my birth control. The excessive hair growth is back as well as some new symptoms. I have recently developed skin tags on my neck and under my arms and my periods are very irregular. I have a terrible time sleeping and my weight has once again ballooned. I have also noticed a small brown patch of skin developing on the right side of my neck. I do not have health insurance coverage right now and know of no "Free Clinics" in my area. I was watching a program on TV tonight and saw a woman who had these same symptoms. I just wanted to get some other opinions from women who have been diagnosed with this to see what you all think! PLEASE HELP!! I want to get this under control before my wedding as me and my fiance are wanting to start a family soon after the wedding.

If you want to get your PCOS under control without BCPs, you really need to consult with a doctor. Since you don't have insurance, getting with a doc might be a little difficult right now. Will you get insurance coverage from your future DH, once you get married? It is good that you want to start now to get your body ready for TTC once you get married.
Until you can get in to see a doc, you might want to try some alternative PCOS Tx's, like herbs, diet, and/or exercise, etc. There is an alternative remedies board that you might want to check out. I used alternative remedies to help get my PCOS under control and to help me get PG with DS#2. You can read my PCOS story for details, link in my sig.

I live in Maryland now but im originally from illinois. To answer the other question the closest planned parenthood is in DC and a pain to get to for me. Im going back home in June for wedding stuff so i might go to the clinic there to check this out.
