Points: 434.07 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 434.07 | Please Help.... Hi my name is Jene' I am 31 years old and I was diagnosed with PCOS over 4 years ago when I couldn't concieve. All I was told by my doctor was that I had something called PCOS and he had a pill I could take to concieve & I did. All this time I just thought that this PCOS just affected fertility . Now the past year I have had other issues that I have just passed off as nothing... 1) Excesive weight gain without much reason 2) Tired all the time 3) always hungry even after eating a full meal 4) High Cholesterol (293) that really isnt heriditary in my family & also I do pretty much eat a well rounded diet so that kind of suprised me. I just dont feel good. Does that sound silly? Anyway about 9 months ago my sister was having some of the same symptoms & went to a endocrinologist and was diagnosed as insulint resistant.. I wondered if this was my problem so I went to my md and told him I wanted a full line of test run & a physical. We did it and every thing was good, insulin levels, thyroid. My mother told me I should have asked for a Glucose test but I just figured I just ignored it. The dr said that looking at my chart he saw that I have gained alot of weight in a short amount of time and I needed to Diet & Exersise.... I know how to loose weight I have done it in the past but now I am just gaining & gaining and nothing seems to work. I never mentioned to the dr that I had been diagnosed with PCOS by my OBGYN 4 years earlier I never thought it had anything to do with it besides Infertility. I am at my last rope .... I am getting my cholesterol rechecked tommorow & I want to talk to the dr about these issues but I dont want to feel like an idiot? Is there a reason for concern? |

But Im sure there is others on here that can answer your question, I would tell your MD that you had been diagnosed with PCOS before or maybe you could see the endo that your sister is seeing. Good Luck and Big ((((HUGS)))) |

My insulin and glucose levels are still considered "normal" but they have been on a steady incline for 4 years now, so I am considered insulin resistant. Do you have any older tests your doctor can compare to? Might want to look into that. Good luck, hope you start getting better results.

Points: 808.61 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 808.61 | Don't be afraid to go in the office and be brutally honest. I went to the dr yesterday to discuss my problems. I haven't been diagnosed, but I suspect strongly that I have PCOS. By the end of the visit, I was crying and very emotional. The good part was that she at least listened and ordered some blood work. I go back next week to discuss the results. Make a list with everything you know and take it with you. That helped me not forget some important things once I hit meltdown!! Good luck and I hope you find your answers! |

Don't be afraid to say look, I need you to do a test for this or check for that; it is your right as a patient. Write down all your symptoms and problems you have been having so that your doctor can help you better. PCOS can interfere with lots of things and weight is the most common one. While you may feel you eat well rounded meals, sometimes we think we are but a little bit here and there, we get a little slack and that can add up. If you want to be sure, you really should take the time to write down all the food you eat and keep a food journal for a week or two and really see what you are eating. You'd be surprised! A lot of us PCOS'ers, find we can only lose weight on low glycemic or low carb plans and it helps with a lot of our symptoms, too. You might want to look into that. It is not easy but well worth it to calm down symptoms. Good luck and keep us informed of what happens next time you go.

My Mood: Points: 8,218.37 Bank: 202,216.63 Total Points: 210,435.01 | The first time I went in after I was diagnosed, I had a list of questions with me and basically drilled my Doctor. I had every test done, includiing the glucose test. Diabetes and PCOS run in my family, so I felt really scared when I went in. I am IR and am taking Metformin, it's helped out a lot with some of the symptoms. Unfortunately, some women with PCOS have an increase in symptoms if their weight increases also. The only way I've lost the weight is by low carbing, or by cutting out all the junk food, watching what I eat and exercising daily. It's been a frustrating and difficult road, but you've got to stay positive and keep at it!! Don't be scared/shy with your Doctor, they're there for US, not the other way around. Good luck!!
