Default Please help?

I just recently got blood work done on my own to find out some issues I have been having. No doctor is willing to check me for PCOS because cysts did not come up on an ultrasound, even though all women on my dads side of the family have this disease.

I recently got my LH and FSH levels checked.

My LH: 3.3
My FSH: 2.5

Can anyone tell me what this means?

My cholesterol is also 249, which I know is high.
I have had bouts of high blood pressure as well at all doctor appointments since june.

My TSH level is 2.10

I don't know about the numbers - but the endocrinologist who diagnosed me said that cysts aren't always present in women with PCOS... I'd find a new doctor if I were you.

Hi Mistimae,

What type of doctors have you seen? A general practitioner? An OBGYN? An endocrinologist? You need to find a doctor (or two) who can verify your PCOS, explain the lab results, advise and treat you, and work with any PCOS issues and concerns you may have. I think that you'll have to ask around and go online and search for doctors who treat PCOS patients.

Right now, I don't have enough posts to include URLs, so, you'll have to copy and paste some of the info into Google to access the websites. Sorry.

The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists.

Go to an eHow page on finding a PCOS doctor

And on the SoulCysters message board, look for search pcos specialists

A website that helps a PCOS patient understand their lab test results at lab tests online

There is a good book to read: A Patient's Guide to PCOS: Understanding and Reversing Polycystic Ovary Syndrome by Walter Futterweit, MD and George Ryan

For myself, I did some reserach and found that I should see an endocrinologist (in addition to my OBGYN) for my PCOS. Before my first appointment, the endocrinologist's office requested that I have all of my doctors and electrologist fax over my medical records regarding PCOS. During my first appointment, both, the doctor and his assistant, examined me; looked through my meds, vitamins, and supplements; and asked me questions about my medical history and my experience with PCOS. They both confirmed the diagnosis of PCOS, and I've been seeing my endocrinologist every three to four months.

Over on the PCOSchallenge website, I posted a response to a conversation where some doctors disregard a patient's complaints of PCOS. Here's a piece of my response that I think is also fitting here: "I've found that when the patient knows themselves very well, they can diagnose themselves far better than the doctor who only sees them very briefly. And if it means that you have to argue and fight to get the doctors to open their minds up and consider looking at the "new" idea, then do it. Because ifyou don't fight for you, then who will?

Good luck and keep us posted on your journey.

I have been to a regular PCM and a GYNO. My Gyno would not even address the PCOS, neither will my regular PCM which is why I had to go off and do the blood work by myself. They said that there is no way it could be PCOS due to no cysts being present, and that was that.

I also had an abnormal pap, and when the GYNO did the colposcopy they found the abnormal cells - said they were HPV but did not biopsy them at all. Told me to follow up with my PCM for another pap test in 6 months. Again, I am dumbfounded.

I've had issues with my cycle since I can remember and have been on BC since age 13, having to switch up every couple of years or less due to them beginning to be less effective in my symptoms. Debilitating cramps, debilitating migraines, heaviness in the pelvic area. Now I am having sharp stabbing pains, sometimes it feels like my ovaries are being twisted. They all are telling me this has to be an intestinal issue because it happens before, during, and after my period - even though I know the difference between my intestines and my pelvic region.

I have a doctor apointment with my PCM next Friday, I will be taking the lab results to him and telling him that I want a referral to an endocrinologist. I will not take no for an answer. Again, I deal with military doctors as well as my husband is a military service member, and they are no the best where we are at and have very little to do with the patient.
