My Mood: Points: 16,364.26 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 16,364.26 | Please Help In May, I started taking progesterone to bring on my period. The progesterone worked and I ended up having 27 day cycles with 5 of those days being my period. At the beginning of August, I started on 1500 mgs of metformin. I was on metformin for about 3 weeks before my next period was due. When it came my cycle shortened by 1 day (in other words it lasted 4 days total). The next month it lasted just 3 days. The same happend in September. I just assumed that it was the metformin working. My period ended (lasting again just 3 days) the day before I went to see my doctor. The doctor said that the reason my periods were shortening because the metformin was regulating my hormones. She suggested stopping the progesterone and seeing if my period still came. It is now 4 days past the time that my period was supposed to start. I have noticed mild cramping, but there is still no blood. I am back in the US(missouri) for at least 2 weeks so there is no way I can reach my doctor(she doesn't do phone consultations). Should I start taking the progesterone again or should I continue to wait for it to start? I am not really sure of what's going on. Has this every happend to anyone else?

If that is negative, then I'd wait the two weeks until you see your own Dr and see if your body starts AF on it's own. The cramping might mean AF is dragging her heels, but on her way in a few days too.
Sometimes when our hormones are regulating, our cycles are not always consistent...my AF's ranged from 28 days to 68 days my first year on Met. I would give your body a couple of weeks grace and talk to your physician about the progesterone when you return home.
Enjoy your trip.

My Mood: Points: 16,364.26 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 16,364.26 | Update and A Question A few days ago, I posted a thread called "please help". I wanted to know if I should start taking my progesterone again (my doctor suggested going off the progesterone to see if metformin would bring forth my period) because my period was 4 days late. Well, it came yesterday full force. I am happy about that because I think that it means that the metformin is working. But, then it made me wonder. If metformin is successful in bringing forth a previously non existant period (well a period that was non existant without medication), is it then a given that it will make you ovulate as well? Also, can I start temping on day 3 of my cycle and still have my chart be accurate? I didn't know that I was going to start my period yesterday, so I didn't temp in the morning when I got up and I forgot to buy a thermometer in the evening so that I could temp this morning.
Anyway, thanks to all those who reply and who have replied to previous threads.

If you read the studies on O in the FAQ section, O is something that met seems to help, but it isn't an instant thing. It can take several months for all of the hormones to swing the right way. One article I read talked about how O is the first thing to go with menstrual difficulties, and the last thing to resolve. So I would start your temping after your trip and see what happens over the next 3 months...I don't think I started O'ing myself until at least 8 months in, but diet was a factor.
All the best!

anyway missing the beginning won't matter

My Mood: Points: 46,912.40 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 46,912.40 | You'll be absolutely fine to start temping any day during your period. I'd recommend still keeping track of you flow days, but temping during AF is purely optional.
Also, although it doesn't happen for everyone, there are many cysters who begin to O simply on metformin. In fact, many cysters call it their miracle drug because they O'd and got pregnant. It doesn't happen for everyone and not always right away, but it can happen.
lots of luck!

Points: 7,634.47 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 7,634.47 | Hi! Remember me?!? I used to live in Espoo, but we've been back in Florida for 7 months now.
When I was in Finland, I was finally put on Met and I started temping on my own. It took me 8 weeks, but I did manage to get AF on my own WITH O!
I've been O'ing and getting AF ever since. I'm in the process of finding a good Dr on my insurance right now as I'm about to run out of Met. I'm getting very scared.
My Dr's in Finland said that the first step was to get AF, which I did. I showed them my charts so they decided to do a cycle test with blood tests and ultrasounds. It was confirmed that I do O on Met alone.
I have taked Clomid, all it does is make my O much later. Before we moved back I had 2 mature follies and we did IUI, but I got AF right before we got on the plane
Good luck to ya!

My Mood: Points: 9,016.06 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 9,016.06 | Glucopage xr has worked for me.......
I have been taking it for a month now...and af came 30 days after my bcp induced af...I have not had af on my own in 10 years.
I was given clomid last cycle before the glucopage..and i think i o'd. Since the met seems to be working I am going to give it a shot alone this cycle and see if i o without the clomid.
glucopage XR
has helped me tremendously.

Hey Bee!
How are you? I wondered where you had disappeared to. Did they have you on terolut to bring on your period? Congratulations on met working. You are really giving me hope .
Have you thought about maybe taking a trip back to Finland and using your prescription to get your 3 month supply? How many mgs are you on?
Did they do an HSG on you? My doctor told me that they don't do that procedure anymore? What was your doctor's name? Did you go to the hormonipoliklinikka in toolo?
OH I'm sorry the IUI didnt work. But at least you are o ing.
Pm me and maybe we can chat a bit.
THanks for answering.
