Hi Joanne! I don't know how much help I will be but let me start by saying that you are paying that dr's salary and if you are not pleased with the way and manner in which you are treated...you definitely need a different dr. You need to contact your insurance provider and get a list of Endocrinologists in your area. They are the dr's that specialize in auto immune disorders such a thyroidism, diabetes and pcos. I think from a health standpoint, if you already recognize that your diet consists of high starches and sugars that you are doing nothing to promote positive health. I had irregular periods from the age of 12 to 27!! I normally got a period twice a year. 13 dr's later I finally found a wonderful doctor who patiently explained a great deal to me and for him I am forever grateful. I was also diagnosed with juvenille diabetes a year ago and I am currently taking 2-3 insulin shots daily but I've lost about 33lbs. I went and did a search engine on diabetes and had all of these diabetic cookbooks sent to my home. I also make sure that I don't eat meals after 7:30 or 8 o'clock, do my best to stay as active as possible and I've reduced my intake of breads, pasta's and sugars. Do you get any excercise? Don't give up okay... there is a dr out there that can help and answer all of your questions and concerns. Please call your healthcare provider. The toll-free number is on your card. Let us know what happens.

"May the windows of Heaven open up and pour upon you an abundance of blessings."

Try and get referred to your local diabetic clinic, there you will see doctors, nurses and dieticians.. you may be able to explain to the dietician you addiction to junk food. I like junk food but you just have to try and be sensible and see if you can work some sort of healthy diet into your daily routine... i know its hard, i still have pizza, curries etc... and burgers but not everyday.... With diabetes you have to eat regulary, and 3 meals a day and some exercise will help with weightloss.
For your dr to say cut out sugar completely is like asking for world peace, you will never get it as sugar is in most foods in varying amounts.. I look at the food that i buy to see how much sugar is actually in a product.. i was actually surprised at how much sugar is in semi skimmed and skimmed milk.. full fat milk has less sugar in but the fat in it isnt going to help your diabetes. I have switched to unsweetened soya milk and feel much better for doing so. Chocolate in moderation is ok, its a waste of money buying sugar free chocolate as it is so expensive and if u eat too much of it u can spend quite alot of time in the loo. As one of the dieticians said to me, instead of eating the whole bar, just have a small part and save some for the next day and so on. Fruit is good for you but again contains sugar.. 2 plums a day i all i could have, i know you dont like fruit but it would only be a small amount of fruit you would have in your diet.

For any information on diabetes go to the diabetes uk site, its very good and they are very helpful.

I dont know where you live in Surrey,
Epsom has the John Kilner Diabetic unit.
Carshalton has a diabetic unit at St Helier Hospital,
Queen Marys Hospital Roehampton there is the Beta Cell diabetic unit
Kingston hospital has a diabetic unit.
Frimley Park hospital has a diabetic unit (and run out patient clinics at Cambridge Military Hospital, Farnham and Fleet Hospitals.)
Royal Surrey County hospital.. (Guildford) i dont know if they have a diabetic unit, or whether diabetics are seen in theoutpatient clinics there.
East Surrey Hospital at Redhill.. again i dont know if they have a unit.

Hope this is of some help.....
