I would like to know if this is normal or if anyone else is going through this all my life i have had irregular periods i just never knew it. Well i tryed to get pregnant since i was 16 finally when i was 24 i got pregnant but sadly three months later i miscarried, my periods went to normal after that but in 2004 i started bleeding for six months straight so i went to a obgyn and she told me that i have posc and to go on birth control to regulate it so i did and it worked then when i got off of the pill, my periods went to normal for three months then in january 2005 til november 18th i did not have a period at all. In april i called my ob and she said since i dont have insurance she would not see me unless i had alot of money which i dont. is it normal not to have a period for this long. by the way the most i have missed in the past was only a month. This period was five days with no spotting after it has been done. please someone help me has this happened to anyone else.
That is a typical sign of PCOS. I personally have never went that long without a period, but I am sure many girls have.
((hugs))

Keep positive thoughts because your mind is stronger at healing than any medication you can take. Believe in yourself to heal and you will start seeing a difference.
I've never gone that long without soley because my gynecologists have always said it isn't healthy to go longer than 3 months without a period so they give me provera to induce it. Can you see a general practicioner to prescribe you Provera? Alternatively, you might want to look at the alternative remedies forum on this site-- I think some women have had luck with natural progesterone cream.
I have gone 6 months without having a period but now get them regularly but do have a prescription for provera to induce if necessary. If you need to see a GYN and money is a problem try planned parenthood

Oh yeah that's normal for pcos. I've had 4 normal periods on my own my whole life. the rest of my life I've been on the pill. If I wasn't on the pill and nothing else I'd probably never get my period. NO that's not true, but the longest I've gone without one is about 6 ot 7 months. It isn't healthy to not get them though. You really want to treat the pcos because you could get uterine cancer from not having periods. You probably already know this. maybe you don't. I just checked and you are new here! Welcome. I would definetly get into planned parenthood. My dr. told me that the best time for us to get preg. is right after going off the pill. We'll usually get our periods for 2-3 months after going off of the pill and then after that they'll go back to being irregular and not ovulating. Make sure you do lots of research on this. I would advise to treat treat treat! There are medicines like met that would help get your hormones back in check and might even start you getting your periods regular! Yeah! Hope this helps.

I went for 3 years without a period. Then I began seeing an RE because my DH and I wanted a baby. I began taking provera to bring it on. That worked. I also began met, which helped, but I couldn't handle the side effects. When I began low carbing that really helped straighten things out for me. You just have to find out what works for your body. Everyone is different, but most people have similar experiences with met & low carbing. You might check out the met boards and the diet & exercise boards for more info on those. Since I have had my son I have been getting my period and ovulating again. I don't know why. It doesn't make any sense to me.
thank you so much for your feedback if i dont get a period next month i will definitly try planned parenthood maybe try the pill again, I think maybe it was becasue i was not on the pill or maybe from the pills. i will try anything
If you are trying to get pregnant, I would not suggest going to planned parenthood. They will only give you birth control pills, and if they aren't well funded you will have to pay to be seen. I would just like to tell you that I had no insurance, so I went to GNC and bought some Vitex ($10 for 50 day supply if you take 2 pills a day). Since I've been 16 I have had very irregular periods and have not gotten pregnant in this whole time (8 years; I am now 24). I had a period every three to four months. I even bled for 80 days straight about 6 months ago). I've been charting my temps for 5 months and I ovulated last month and this month, maybe for the first time since I was 16!! I know it was the Vitex. I have been taking it for 3 months and it made me ovulate. I have PCOS and am looking forward to having the baby I've been dreaming of, and I hope that you will try this and it works for you too, so you can get that baby you've been waiting for as well I LOVE VITEX!!! I don't know if my advice is much use to you as I'm in the UK. But I have had whole years when I had no periods, and very weird ones when they came - so painful I couldn't walk, in my 20s! It doesn't mean you'll never conceive. I've now got 5 sons! I had something to bring on my periods, then Clomid - but only to conceive Son 2 - conceived 4 children with no drugs, or medical intervention.
After my first son, the periods got more frequent and became totally pain-free. I've heard other PCOS-ers say the same that childbirth makes things more *normal*. It took me 8 years to conceive No 1 son - and no drugs or doctors. So don't despair - your body can make it happen. Usually when you relax!
Reading this thread, it occured to me; all the UK PCOS-ers who think the NHS is bad - if you've read this thread you might appreciate how lucky we are having a health service that's free at the point of use!
