I guess my first question is, what is the reason for the surgery? at times, it may be necessary to remove a cyst before it ruptures...is that why? also, how is the dr treating you? what meds are you on, if any? I know you're upset and anxious to start a family, but we need a little more info so that someone here can help you.

I think you should do A LOT of research on PCOS on the web. It's a lot of info out there.

I had the laparoscopy -an ovarian wedge resection- instead of ovarian drlling. It worked for me & I had periods every month for years w/ no medication. I lost weight too & nearly all PCOS symptoms significantly improved.

However, I was not tryn to get pregnant so I don't know, but I believe I was fertile. I am reading that a lot of women on this site are on a lot of diff. meds, & some are supposed to help w/ fertility.

I would opt for the laparoscopy any day, b/c the medicines make me feel terrible & after surgery I didn't have to take any. But you really need to research & make sure your dr isn't trying to do a hysterectomy or anything crazy like that.

For me, surgery was the way to go. It depends on what you can afford/are able to do & how severe yours is. Mine was so severe that HIGH dosages of medication would not start a period & my ovaries were near the size of oblong grapefruit.

I was on diff. medications to treat something else & now my PCOS has come back. I am seriously considering having surgery again b/c this Provera is making me ill!

RESEARCH RESEARCH RESEARCH!

hello girls,
I think Dr. must have given you clomid 50, clomid 100 ie (fertyl) or Letroz (femara). If i am right then this is the first step to treat PCOD patients. If you get ovulate by these medicines then Dr. are trying these for 12 months and if there are no results then for 2-3 cycles you can go for IUI (in IUI procedure they will wash the sperms and will inject that near to fallopian tube, here you will have the guarantee that sperms are reaching to follicle.). If IUI fails then you can go for laparoscopy i.e. called as ovarian drilling.
And with this many patients go for ferty , HSG , IUI combination. I think you should discuss these point with your Dr. and he will guide you for the next step.
All the best and baby dust to you.

From what I understand, the HSG is to check for any problems/damage to your uterus & tubes that could be causing infertility. Some Dr's do this before a laparoscopy to determine if there's something there that needs to be fixed before actually performing the surgery.
