I cant say that I have a solution for you, but I am going through the same thing. I have lost 3/4 of my hair since July and am scared and depressed too! The only advice I can give is get to the doctor right away! If you are not TTC they can put you on BCP's or some anti androgen pill. You also want them to run blood tests to make sure nothing else is going on -like too much Vitamin A, Anemia, autoimmune problems. Did you stop taking BCP's recently? That can do it too. I think that is what did it to me - I stopped them in July and immediately - clumps! Keep taking the saw palmetto and vitex. Eat a high protein diet with lots of fruits and vegetables, take inositol and use a high volumizing shampoo. If you have oil skin and scalp shampoo every day and use a clarifying shampoo once a week. Try Rogaine (Once I started using it it stopped falling out as much and has started to regrow.)

Also another thing I have learned is to cut out all of the caffeine and sugar - especially coffee because it kills the effect that the herbs may have. And most of all - try to relax. I know it is har -believe me! But stress will just make it worse. When it falls out -feel your scalp, can you feel it coming back? Most importantly - see youe doctor.

Hi lauralee1979,

I don't have any answers for you - just wanted to tell you that you are defintely not alone with this awful hair loss situation. There are lots of us right there with you. In highschool (about 14 years ago), I used to have nice, thick hair that people were envious of, now, my hair is awful. It's really thin and really awful. Sooooo much hair comes out every single day in the shower and when I'm styling my hair - how depressing the first thing every morning!

I have tried lots of different shampoo's, etc. and haven't found anything that makes much difference as far as the amount of hair that comes out every day. I am currently on Spiro and haven't had any luck with that - I haven't noticed any minimizing of the hair loss so far. It's so frustrating. And, if I have to hear one more doctor tell me that "it doesn't look that bad"...I think I will completely lose it.

Hey, I'm new the thread but I feel your pain. I have/had severe male pattern baldness and my hair dresser suggested Nioxin. There's a starter kit which includes a shampoo, follical booster and scalp treatment. I used all three daily and followed his instructions to rinse the scalp treatment with ice cold water (it feels like a peppermint patty when done) and I grew a new set of bangs in 3 to 4 weeks. It's the only thing I've found that helps with the scabs I get on my scalp too.

Nioxin is a bit expensive and can be found at Ulta or on their website at Nioxin.com.

Hope it helps you too,
Trina

hey, I have lost a ton of hair over the past year & I know how you feel. Somtimes I think I will lose my mind and end up having a meltdown and in a hospital. This kind of stress is not helpful with the disease. I am going to a doctor but I do have to consider what will happen if it keeps coming out. I think I can wear hats & scarves to cover it up. But I am afraid I will become a real introvert and it kind of scares me. I don't know that there is any certain solution but I never thought I could live my life shaving my face every day for the rest of my life either. I just cut my hair yesterday and it looks cute, kinda covers it up. I cut it myself because its a punky style.
Do what works for you and remember real beauty cannot be photographed.

Default saw palmetto shampoo/conditioner

Avalon Organics Conditioner, Thickening, Biotin B-Complex Shampoo and Conditioner have Saw Palmetto in them. You can purchase them through drugstore.com.

Hope this helps.

hugs to all you going through this horrible problem. I wish i had a wand to make it vanish for everyone who has ever had to go through this! Its the most horrible and self-destroying thing ever. And I went through it not long ago, however I did manage to get it all back. And the biggest contributer to getting back my hair was trying to have a positive attitude. I know it sounds cheesy, but in the long run it was the only thing that worked. Heres an interesting website about pcos and hair loss it also has some answers. I really hope things get better for you all real soon.

I lose a lot of hair too. When I wash it and then more when I dry it. I look down at the sink when I"m done and I'm always baffled at how much hair has fallen out. However, I started out with VERY THICK hair, so it's just down to about normal now. But I'm only 21 so I'm worried about what the coming years are bringing.
