hello.. i hope someone can help me cos i am starting to get really worried about this, i've been researching my symptoms online and i cant seem to find an accurate diagnosis, im wondering if my problem sounds like PCOS to anyone? my cousin was diagnosed with this a few years back..

I've always had irregular periods, averagely i go about 5-6 weeks between them, up till about 6 months ago when they suddenly became regular. but my problem is this - about 10 - 14 days into my cycle i experience a thick, brown/black discharge which goes on for about 4 -5 days. I also have excess hair on my stomach. is mid cycle bleeding a symptom of PCOS? I'm really getting scared now and i am going to visit my doctor tomorrow. I just wanted to know if anyone thinks that this could be PCOS. sorry for tmi !!

A symptom of PCOS is irregular cycles, and you sound pretty irregular to me. That being said, that doesn't necessarily mean that you have PCOS. Let your dr know your concerns. Good luck to you!

It's helpful to research PCOS to see all of the symptoms that are related to the condition. There are so many symptoms that you may have that you don't even realize could be tied in to your irregular periods. Some of the common things are acne, hair loss, excess hair growth (in places it shouldn't be growing), mood swings, ect. When you go to your doc, make sure and tell him/her that your cousin was diagnosed with PCOS. It has been tied to genetics. My sister and I both have it. Also, what type of doctor are you going to see? Don't even waste your time and money on a general practitioner. They're just going to refer you to an OB or Endo.

Dear Bethanox,
What did your doc say? Your symptoms sound similar to mine ten years ago. I was/am treated with birth control pills and metformin. Hair stuff calmed down and periods became regular. Went off when trying to conceive. Have 2 lovely girls. Good luck.
