I am suffering terribly for 7 years now with PCOS and I can't take it anymore. I have tried everything you can possibly imagine, I have spent hundreds, no thousands and thousands of dollars with so many different treatments. My disease has left me unbelievably depressed and broke. I had to quit my job because of the stress it was causing me, and in turn making my condition worse. I am at the end of my rope it seems with no way out of this mess.
I DO NOT believe that conventional meds are the answer for me. I was on birth control pills for a little over 2 years and I did lose the weight, but as soon as I stopped my hair started falling out like CRAZY !!! After 3 months it starting to slowly stop. I don't have hair loss now, the odd time but not much at all. But the one major problem is the insulin resistance. I am always starving......I eat healthy, I workout, but not as much as I would like because the hunger kicks in and my stomach hurts so bad. And I just cannot lose weight, despite my amazingly clean diet.
I have been getting my periods lately, which is the only good thing, but who knows how long that will last? In the past I wouldn't get it one month, the next I would, then the next it would last only 2 or 3 days and be very light, it was all over the place !?!?!
I could go on and on here, but what I wanted to ask was, I truly believe in chinese medicine and acupuncture, but there are SO many of them that I'm not sure where to go and who to see. Would anyone know of someone who could help ??
Any help on this would be much appreciated.
This website offers a glimmer of hope to people who suffer with this ugly disease, and I hope one day I can be healed and help heal all women who suffer with PCOS.
Please and thank you,
Jenny I live in Toronto, Ontario (Canada)

I take metformin, but really I think that diet and exercise and bringing my weight down has been what has brought me the most relief. I take herbs for ttc, but there are ones you can take to help pcos. If you are interested in alternative remedies you can try to find a naturopathic or chinese medicine college. The rates are usually lower, and sometimes even without cost. Hope that helps

Thanks for the response. I did have a look through the Alternative Medine area, and I didn't really see anyone recommend a very good chinese herbalist / acupuncture clinic.
You know what really makes me upset about having this condition? The fact that NOT ONE SINGLE DOCTOR has been able to figure me out. It is the most frustrating thing one can ever go through in their life. If anyone is looking for the ultimate horror stories, as far as doctors are concerned, then I am THE ONE they should be speaking to.
I have been yelled at by a couple doctors when I would start crying in their office telling them that I know something else is wrong and to please have them send me to some specialist. I have been mistreated and told I just needed to diet and all my problems would go away. I have been lied to, oh yes folks, lied to by doctors !!
One doctor I went to made me spend a couple thousand dollars, then only 6 months into his program, he decides to close his clinic, and I can kiss my money and everything else goodbye. One naturopathic doctor I saw, from the many, gave me some weird metal contraption to hold while he took one sock off and put another weird looking metal device on my toe.......he then had an assistant help him. He would take a variety of supplements that were to supposedly going to help me and check them out on this weird machine. If the metal device he had on my toe beeped then that meant that the supplement would work for me. If it didn't he would put it in another tray.....I'm guessing the not work for me tray.
You may all get a laugh from my stories, as I'm laughing a little myself now, but these are only some of the crap that I have gone through. I've probably seen close to 40 if not more, doctors and/or alternative doctors, and I have alot more stories from all these fools, but why waste my time talking about these idiots.
This is why I have truly had ENOUGH now !!! I am at the LOWEST point in my life and I need some real guidance from someone who has seen some real success with their alternative doctor.

Post a request to find an herbalist in your area...someone will respond

Hello - I posted yesterday about finding an alternative doctor in the Toronto, (Canada) area.
I am willing to travel to whatever parts of the world to find someone who is VERY experienced and knowledgeable in this condition.
Even if I have to drive all the way to California......I just need someone to help.
I'm not trying to complain, I'm only trying to find help and no doctor seems to care, heck even hospitals I end up in treat me horribly. My recent visit to the emergency room I was in such extreme pain that I was screaming, and they told me to keep it down.
I cried so much I thought I was going to die right then and there.
Referrals to other specialists has done nothing, in fact this supposedly good endo. in Toronto completely ignored my chief complaints and suggested I try her acne remedy. I wanted to slap her silly.
Any cyster out there who has some direction for me, please let me know.
I am so sorry about all you have gone through! I went to about 9 dr.s before I was diagnosed. I had several who told me I must be lying to them about my life style because why else would I have gained so much weight? Well, years later I read about PCOS and found that I do indeed have it. I found the thing that helped me to get in shape and feel healthy and happy again was Metformin. Also, I was tested for hypothyroidism, which alot of cysters have. I have a mild case, so mild that alot of Dr.s would say I don't have it, but the medication( synthroid) has also helped.
As far as where to go for help... I have to say that once I started going to Dr.s associated with the major Boston hospitals I have been very impressed. There are alot of hospitals in Boston, and most are considered among the top in the world. There are several that ARE the best in the world as far as fertility and endocrinology. I would not hesitate to recommend coming here for treatment if you are really serious about it. If nothing else perhaps you could consult with someone here and see if they can reccomend someone closer to you. I can give you specifics if you like, please PM me anytime!
Hi Jenfra,
I'm so sorry for all that you have gone through in the search for help with this syndrome. I'm having great success treating my PCOS with what the mainstream medical community considers alternative methods, but I pretty much have to do my own research and have a little help from my regular doctors. I'm solving every symptom but those darned painful cysts when I ovulate. Plus I also have Endometriosis, so it's back on The Pill for me to solve those issues. It's so nice to be slowly beating the rest of this syndrome and the Insulin Resistance's hold on my body, however. It feels powerful!
BUT! My partner's family is from up near Buffalo, NY. All of his maternal, female relatives (mother and aunts) go to and just love this "healer" they see up there somewhere. I'm not certain what her discipline and training is, but I can find out if you'd like. I also know she was incredibly affordable; as in far less than $100 a session a few years ago. Plus that wouldn't even be that far from you. PM me if you'd like more info, and I'll ask my MIL about her.
I wish you luck on your search for help!
Dana

Great - thanks for the responses so far.....it makes me feel like I'm not alone in this battle and that someone else does understand all that we go through.
For me losing weight is a VERY big issue. I was always skinny growing up and never had to deal with weight issues, though I did have a bout with anorexia from 19 to about 22 years of age. One thing I constantly think about is that fact that anorexia might have played a part in my condition. Why was it that after about a year I started exibiting signs of PCOS ? Could the anorexia have done some damage, and possibly taken me down the road to PCOS ? When I think back, I find SO many strange things that happened BEFORE being diagnosed. I think about this almost every day and I won't stop researching, reading, and getting as much info as I can to figure all this out.
I am in search of the right alternative doctor, but I am also in search as to "why" does this happen in the first darn place !?!
Has there ever been a study where women were asked to describe what their life was like BEFORE being diagnosed ? I mean you'd figure that all these DOCTORS would know what to tell you when asking them why it is happening to you and not to your next door neighbor who has clear skin, perfect body, and popping kids out fasting than a speeding bullet. Or someone who works in your office, or whomever, you get my point.
Why do some women get cysts but don't have PCOS, and some women have PCOS don't have cysts ???
I may not be healed now and I may not have all the answers, but as GOD IS MY WITNESS, I will not rest until this condition is solved and known by everyone in the world and every one of us be treated with some friggin' respect !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We are not just "some fat chick" who can't lose weight.
This is an epidemic and we are being bombarded by those who wish to scam us with their so-called miracle treatments, and by those doctors who still believe that women can heal using synthetic medications. (I may get alot of responses from this one, but it had to be said).
Synthetic medications may help (short term) but have you asked yourself what the heck you'll be doing LONG TERM !?!? You can't possibly stay on meds for the rest of your life.
I have tried ALL PCOS meds precribed by conventional doctors and ALL of them have given me nothing but grief.
I will post again once I get some responses from this post, otherwise I'll make this a novel.
Let's get on this GIRLS, let's try to kick this PCOS in the butt for good and not brush it under the carpet.
