Default PLEASE HELP more about my miscarriage

I got some of my records today that my doctors apparently were hiding from me. It turns out that my progesterone level was 18 when I ovulated. They told me it was extremely low. Also, they told me that there was no yolk sac. I specifically asked. They told me that it was a blighted ovum. Well, from all of the reading i've been doing, blighted ovums are not possible if a yolk sac is present because a yolk sac cannot form without an fetus. They told me that it wasn't a real pregnancy. Well, if there was a fetus wasn't it a real pregnancy? When I went in for my first ultrasound where something was found, a gestational sac and a yolk sac were seen, but no fetus. The next ultrasound showed a gestational sac and a yolk ring. The last ultrasound showed a misshapen "collapsed" gestational sac and no yolk ring or sac. So, this does mean that there was a baby right? But he was just too small to detect on ultasound. So, if my progesterone levels were fine and there was a baby, then what went wrong? My endometrium measured at 26mm, then 20.6 mm, then 22mm. Is it supposed to fluctuate so much? Could it be that I have the clotting problem that i've read so many PCO women have? They commented in my files about how thick my lining was. Was it then too thick to nourish my baby? I am taking 100mgs of aspirin daily now. Hoping that if I get pregnant again the outcome will be different. Anyway please help! Thank you

((((big hugs)))) I am so sorry about your m/c and insensitive dr!!

No, it doesn't sound to me like your pg was a blight ovum. Even if it was, it would still have been a "real" pg. It drives me crazy when these insensitive drs try to blow it off like you weren't really pg! The sperm fertilized the egg and the embryo implanted in the uterus so it WAS a real pg!! Don't listen to the dr, sweetie! You WERE pg and you lost your baby. It's a real loss and it hurts. I pray God will give you the strength to get through this sad time.

((((more hugs))))

Default So sorry for your loss

I am SO sorry for your loss. I know exactly what you are going through. I have PCOS; found out I was PG on 7/5 and learned I had a blighted ovum and was going to m/c on 8-17.

While I am not able to interpret the technical info you had mentioned in your post, I can tell you it WAS a baby; the moment you found out you were PG you had plans for the baby's future and no doctor can take that away from you. I live in the St Louis area and work in St Charles. I noticed you are in St Charles. If you'd like to meet and discuss this in person, I'd be willing to meet you somewhere. Since my m/c and D&C I have done a lot of reseach and would be happy to share it with you.

Acajou I'm SO glad you are finally getting some answers, even if they are confusing answers right now.

I would say to hang on to those charts and bring them to a doctor who will take you seriously in the US. Hopefully they will be able to interpret them and explain better for you. I know you really really want answers as to why this happened, and I hope that a more empathetic and concerned doctor can help you find those answers. But you should know that even with all of the information, most miscarriages are unexplained. Still, it is really great that you have the information now, at least if there IS an answer they can help you find it.

I agree with the other ladies that emotionally this was a REAL pregnancy whether it was a blighted ovum or not. A baby was started right away no matter what caused him or her to stop growing. No matter what the cause of the misscarriage, you have a right to mourn the loss of your baby.

Thank you to all who answered. This has been such a great source of support for me. I have found more kindness and comfort here than I have in any place in my actual life. I want to thank all of you for that.

Saluki-fan: I'm sorry that it has taken me so long to respond. I've been in Estonia. I am still in Finland and won't be until Monday. Then i'll be back in Missouri for good. I'll need a couple of weeks to readjust to being back in the states, but if we could meet towards the end of October, I would really like that.

My email address is acajou73@yahoo.com. Please write and we can exchange a few emails before meeting.

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I know exactly what you are going through. I live in Illinois but am only 20 mins from St. Louis. I went to a really great RE at Washington University if you are interested when you get back to St. Charles. Again, I am sorry about your loss.

Default RE at Wash U

Hi - who is the RE you mentioned at Wash U?

I was lucky enough to not need a specialist last time and hopefully won't need one the next time we try, but it never hurts to be prepared.

Thank you!

acajou73, I'll email you soon...have a safe trip back to the U.S.

kcal- Thank you. I have an appointment scheduled Nov. 1 with Dr. Pearlstone. Have you heard of him? Is the Dr. you are talking about Valerie Ratts? I've heard about her. I've read though, by doing a search online, that she does not like treating fluffy cysters and I am one. So, i'm a little nervous about scheduling an appointment with her. Here in Finland, if I stayed which I won't be, they told me that now since I have gotten pregnant on my own, I do not need clomid or any other ovulation inducting medication. But, they won't give me anything to support or help another pregnancy if I do not lose 50kgs.

Now there is something really strange going on with my body. For the past week my nipples have been sensitive to the touch. Then on the 27th, they started to get wider, softer and flatter, like they did when I was pregnant last time. I thought there might be HCG left in my system from the D&C, but I took a pregnancy test and it was negative and all of my symptoms after the D&C disappeared about 4-5 days after the procedure. Well, almost all, my breasts never went down. I'm still about a cup size bigger and I was a DD to start. I think I ovulated on either the 22nd or 23rd. That is when my nipples first started to get semi tender to the touch, nothing major or painful, just different from what they usually are and I started getting the egg white slime. I did BD around those days and I think on one of those days. I can't remember. I just assumed I had an infection. I don't know why. Now i'm starting to wonder if i'm pregnant again. Maybe i'm just crazy and wanting to be pregnant again so badly that i'm imagining symptoms or that it is a psychosomatic reaction. My husband said that my breasts look swollen around the areola. The last day or so they have started to hurt well ache continuously when earlier they were only sensitive when I touched them. If I am pregnant again, is it possible that I would have changes so soon? Also, after my procedure, I could sleep through the night without having to go to the bathroom. But for the last few days, i've been woken up by the urge to pee and i've been peeing at least 4 or 5 times a day. That's unusual for me because I usually only pee once or twice. This is probably more information than anyone wanted to know. I don't know what's going on. Could it be that my hormones are starting to normalize and this is the reaction i'm getting?

Saluki-fan: Thank you. I look forward to hearing from you. Where in St. Louis do you live by the way? I'm just off Zumbhel.

Default STL location, symptoms

Acajou73 - maybe you are PG (and wouldn't that be nice?) When I conceived (either 6/14, 6/15, 6/16) my breasts hurt almost immediately. I even took an HPT on 6/27 and it was negative. Then when I had over 20 days of high temperatures I decided to take another, just in case, because one of my friends was in a similiar situation where her first test was negative and a week later she had a positive one. So on 7/5 I took another and it was POSITIVE! Anyway, good luck and keep us posted.

I live near Westport Plaza, and I work in the small office park behind the Hampton Inn off the north service road between Zumbehl and Cave Springs - small world, isn't it? I grew up near 370 and Elm Street and my parents still live there.

The RE is Dr. Valerie Ratts. I am somewhat overweight, and she never said anything to me about it. How did you hear about her not liking to take on fluffy people?
They do say that the first three months after a mc you are more fertile. Maybe you are pg! Good luck to you.

saluki_fan: God, it would be wonderful if I were pregnant again so soon. Since i'll be in the US now, I am sure that i'll get better treatment than I have here.
That's about how it was with me. I had sore nipples from ovulation. But, I remember that on July 19th they were incredibly painful. The doctor said I ovulated on July 3rd. I took a test on the 27th...negative. I took it again on the 4th and it was positive then. All of the symptoms I felt then, i'm feeling now except for the fact that my nipples are not nearly as sensitive as they were then. But, they didn't really start hurting last time until about 15 dpo. Right now i'm either 11-12 dpo. But they are considerably more sensitive than they were at the beginning of the week. My right one hurts to touch and throbs a bit. The left is semi tender, but not nearly as much as the right.

I used to go to school near there. I went to Parkway Central until '88 when we moved to St. Peters then I transferred from there to Fort Zumwalt South. I graduated in '91 and then started Saint Louis University that summer. I graduated from there in '97 then moved here (to Finland) in '98. I bought a house off of Zumbehl about 3 years ago and that's where I will be living when I return. My parents still live in St Peters. 370 and Elm? That's very very close to my house. Yes it is a small world.

kcal: My name is Renée by the way. I did a search on her on yahoo and found some things. I can't find all of the other things I found on her about a year ago, but here is one link that still exists...

http://forums.obgyn.net/pcos/PCOS.0207/0073.html

Thanks for the well wishes. I hope I am.
