Hello!

Well, your question depends on a couple of things. First of all, domestic and international adoptions are different from eachother. Also, if you choose international, the cost and the wait can be different according to what country you adopt from.

I adopted domestically and had a comparitively easy and quick experience. However, in my mind it wasn't easy and quick but compared to other adoptions I've heard about--it was. We submitted our paperwork in December 2001. In February 2002, we got the call from the adoption agency that a birthmother had chosen us. We got to know the birthmother very well and was there for our daughter's birth in June 2002. It was an amazing experience! We were put on a shorter waiting list because we were not particular about the gender or ethnical heritage of our baby. I cannot tell you how wonderful our baby girl is and how glad we were to go through this adoption experience. We will definitely do it again. I would also like to adopt internationally some day but haven't decided which country we would go through.

If you would like more information on cost and time for international adoptions, check out different web sites. The one I know of off hand is www.worldpartnersadoption.org. There are many others here in this message boards who have adopted and can give you more information.

Good luck. Send me a message if you would like to more information.

Dawn

If you adopt within your state usually, note the word usually all you pay is about 40.00 court cost. thats what it cost us. We waited about 1 year from the beginning of our mission.

Yeah that would all depend on what kind of adoption you were going to do. It varies so much it's unreal. We ended up paying the lawyer, court costs, homestudy and also the BM's Dr bills and hospital bills. I guess that's around 12,000 all together.

It truly all depends on how you want to go about adotion and which way is right for you. Have you thought about how you would like to adopt? Might be able to help you out more with your question if we knew a little more about your plans.

Good luck with everything.

We are planning to adopt internationally. The agency we were (things are on hold currently as I became pregnant in our journey) working with is Commonwealth International Adoptions (their website link: CIA - Adoption Program Fees

The agency has fees and then there are costs associated with homestudy, state and INS certification, notary and apostile document costs, travel costs, etc.

We are planning to adopt from Panama - at the time we opted for that the agency was running a "special" as Panama is a new country for them. The agency fees are $9,000 vs $12,000 for Columbia. Russia and China agency fees are $17,000.

There are ways to obtain financial loans or some agency offer payment plans. There are options if financial considerations are tight.

Good Luck.

I would have to agree. Since we did not have our money up front we decided to go through an agency that would do payment plans with us. We are adopting domestically. Our agency works on a sliding scale and accepts monthly payments.

You can find information on them at adoptionhelp.org.

Good luck
