My Mood: Points: 605.71 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 605.71 | Please help . . . Scared of new medication!! Hi everyone,
My doctor has just prescribed Femara for me during cd 3-7. He says that it works alot like clomiphene, but it gives you a better chance of not miscarrying. I have looked up as much information as possible on the internet. However, when it comes to using Femara for ovulation, there is more negative than positive information out there.
Can you ladies tell me why your doctors switched you from clomiphene to femera. Are there any risks in taking this medicine. I did three rounds of clomiphene earlier this year and my P4 levels were .2, .9, 1.1. I had ovarian drilling in June and started on clomiphene again in July. My P4 level was in August was 8.4. I thought this was a wonderful improvement. My cycle has started on it's own today for the first time. Any suggestions on why my doc changed over to Femera? I tried Clomid for three cycles and not only did it not work for me, it caused horrible side effects. My RE switched me to Femara and I could not believe the difference! Virtually NO side effects, wonderful response and a beautiful lining (unlike with Clomid). My P4 levels have been sky high due to the number of follies I've been producing.
The negatives you are reading about Femara are due to the fact that they have not officially pronounced it an ovulatory inducing drug. It is still considered a drug to treat breast cancer, however, my doctor says it is only a matter of time before they are using this drug for ovulation. He's had wonderful success with it.
I would check out the Femara buddies thread...many of them have go on to become pregnant on Femara after not having any luck with Clomid.
Good Luck!!!!

If you can, spend some time reading through the pages. I got as far as Page 20 when I finally relaxed enough to not worry about it anymore. A lot of women are clomid-resistant. I can't remember the exact hormone it blocks for breast cancer but its the same one that prevents us from growing follies...that's why it works so well for many women.

The only risk for birth defects is if you take this medication while you are CURRENTLY pregnant, which wouldn't be the case if you are taking it to ovulate.

I was just trying to stress that the risk doesn't run any higher than Clomid.
