Angry Please help...waxed upped lip nightmare!!

Hello everyone...I really need some help here.....

Last night...I went on a hair removal mad one! Eyebrows...legs...lower back and upper lip (which I waxed)

I don't usually wax my upper lip, as I am naturally fair, and I usually just pluck the longer ones I can see in the light, but last night I used those "ready to use" wax strips, and removed the hair from my upper lip.
After my skin was tingling, and going red, so I put some aloe vera gel on before going to bed....only to wake up this morning to see my upper lip in a real mess....acne scars gone red (look like new spots) skin missing...and now it looks like I have a red moustache, and is so painful!!

I am not sure why I have had this reaction...I am wondering if the roaccutane I was on 5 years ago has made my skin super sensitive!

Can some one please advise what I can do....its the weekend...and I cannot show myself :-(

Thankyou x

oh no! I am sorry that you've had such a bad reaction. Typical to be on the weekend, too.

could you ask your pharmasit for something to put on it?? hope your skin clears soon.

Hi

I had a very similar situation happen but to my eyebrow area.
In order not to scar.....can you go into a walk-in clinic which are usually open on weekends? If not I would go to the pharmacy and ask the pharmacist what the newest thing on the market is for this type of burn. Eight yrs ago when this happened to me the doctor gave me a prescription cream and told me that I would have to be very careful not to ever let the sun hit the area....always wear sunscreen or that area will permanently be discolored.
Good luck

You're in the UK, so get to your nearest Accident and Emergency Unit without delay. NOW.

If there's skin missing, then you don't want to end up with permanent scarring.

Waxing is pretty brutal. Some people can stand it, others can't. Some people can stand it on some areas but not on others.

Your upper lip is usually a very sensitive area. Many people find that depilatory creams strong enough to remove their moustache cause burning. Waxing is a degree of severity harsher still.

The gentlest way of removing hair from that area is with a men's-type electric razor, some, but not all, of which are extremely gentle.

Don't worry about the A and E people -- they've seen worse and undoubtedly seen the same thing many times. Tell them EXACTLY what happened.

I have had something like this happen... I was using retin-a and I waxed. Had a big scabby area because the top layer of skin came off. I just kept it moisturized, it healed just fine. I would not freak out and worry much about permanent damage.

As for why it happened to you... who knows. I find the ready-to-used strips really don't work so well. I used them on my legs once... it seemed like they grabbed the skin really well but not the hair!!! So I'd stretch/pull the hell out of my skin and end up with bruised skin with hair growing out of it.

My moustache area is like yours - the hair is light in color but the edges can get long. Personally I have found the best thing for this area is honest to goodness WAX. The solid stuff you melt and spread on, let it cool, hold the skin taught and grab an edge of the wax and zip it off as fast as you can. It really works great for fine hair. It can be hard to find, though.

The good thing is one you find it it lasts FOREVER - I have found with such fine light hair going in you can reuse the same wax over and over. I have Sally Hansen brand. Used to come in a pack with 3 slabs and a little plastic dish - now it just comes in a little tub with a lid. I keep a little bit separate in a ceramic ash tray so as not to contaminate the pot. I probably won't need to buy any more until I am 45 or so, LOL (I'm 31...)

After I wax I wipe clean with a salycillic acid acne pad - keeps the infection follicle issue from happening, which can occur.

I think you just irritated you skin really bad - it should calm down and heal fairly soon.

Oh noo! I'm so sorry. I have done the same exact thing before. It hurts like crazy, not to mention makes you feel like people are staring. The only thing I did was put an ice cold wash cloth on the area for a little bit and I used alot of cocoa butter lotion, which burned at first, but gradually the sting went away. So sorry!!

Hey, thanks for all the helpful replies to my red moustache!

OMG do I really need A & E? I went to the pharmacist...and she just looked and said...there was nothing that could really be done, but to try a calamine lotion, which I brought for about £1...I moisturised this morning, and it burned like hell....I just hope there is no scarring here!

Its done a great job though in removing the hair though! Is the wax you melt safer complared to my dodge ready to use wax strips then? As I loved the quick effect of waxing, but don't really want this to happen again to my upper lip!

Thanks again for all your help x

Well, at least you've seen a pharmacist who would be able to assess more accurately whether any skin removal was serious. I thought you were feeling to embarrassed to go out to a store.

At least you weren't ripped off on that one

Don't put moisturiser on to areas where the skin is missing or broken -- you'll aggravate it.

So much depends on how strong your moustache is and how sensitive the skin of your upper lip is. If the hair is any ways strong, then be careful about waxing which can distort the root so that the hair grows in different directions and makes your moustache much more obvious as it grows in.

Thanks Joyblack....in the end... I thought to hell with it...and quickly went to a pharmacist. I put some bio oil on last night to try and prevent any scarring, and it seems to be drying out now, which I suppose is a good sign that it is healing.

Thanks all
