I saw an endocrinologist on 16th Ave N.W. in Calgary. Dr. R.S.

He apparently is an excellent dr. for diabetes, but would barely spare a moment to consider the problems I was having with hirsutism, weight gain, hypothyroid, acne, high blood pressure, profound fatigue, depression, kidney stones, etc. etc.

He treated me like a mental patient with diabetes.

I had to beg -in tears- for his help. He finally said these things were consistant with PCOS. He said I should always follow my psychiatrist's advice and although the medication I am on causes weight gain, and several women in my family are 250 lb.s+ I may have PCOS, I should think about losing weight. Everything would be better if I lost weight.

Don't you love it when you go to a doctor and tell him, "Doc, there's something really wrong with me. I go to Weight Watchers with a friend and she loses 50 lb. even though her arthritis makes it just about impossible to excercise and I eat less than she does and exercise myself into total exhaustion and I GAIN 10 lb.s."?

And he says I should think about trying to lose weight!!!

In other words, "I don't believe a word you are saying. You're not trying. You're lying. You're wasting my time."

Dr. Daniel Hodges in Edmonton ...

I was referred to him by my GP, the only way to get in to see him unless ofcourse you are pregnant ...

He doesn't specialize in PCOS however he does treat many women with the symptom. He's very kind and caring even if you don't want TTC. He's very patient and listens real well.

HTH

Dr. Robert Reid at Kingston General Hospital.

I have great faith in this man - and have heard many success stories from other patients of his, whom have become my friends over time

Very good Doctor and he came highly recommended by others I know who were referred to him for other problems.

The Doctor who referred me to Dr. Helms is one of my angels on earth as well, she listened to me and KNEW there was more to my story than met the eye. She did not stop until we got an answer.

My specialist helped us have our DD the first time around, and is now helping us TTC #2.

He's really good, and doesn't mess around by keeping you on things that don't work.

You need a referrel from your GP.

Cranbrook, BC

Dr. Madeline Oosthuizen (referred usually to as "Dr. Madeline")

I'm new here (and currently quite quiet till I find out if I actually have PCOS or not)) but I just had to recomend this woman to anyone in the area. I'm currently waiting on the results on the blood tests but it was her who mentioned PCOS to me recently and was quite informed when she first mentioned it to me.

Default Edmonton Naturopathic Doctor

My Naturopathic Doctor, Jackie Yurko, (in Edmonton) has been amazing ! !

I went off the birth control pill (Diane-35) in August 2004 after being on it for 5 years (I developed awful side-effects, but didn't think the pill was the culprit after so many side-effect free years). By January 2005, I still hadn't got my period back and was suffering from severe hormonal ups and downs, anger/rage, PMS like symptoms only 10x worse - definately did not feel like myself. I have always been treated for my PCOS by traditional doctors (for 10 years, since my diagnosis). After all the horrible side-effects of Diane-35, I felt like I was finished with all their prescriptions and easy fixes. So, I sought out answers on this website and others like it for alternative therapies. I was overwhelmed at the prospect of a whole new approach to treating my disease, so my next step was to find an expert that could fine tune a plan for my specific needs and issues. This is where Dr. Jackie Yurko came in. She has totally given me my life back without side-effects. She also has been the only doctor that has taken the time to listen to me on a consistant basis. I have a say in how I treat and manage my PCOS (which is NOVEL) --- I just can't thank her enough.

I just moved here (Wetaskiwin) from Edmonton and I found an amazing GP, Dr. van Tonder. My new ob/gyn is in Camrose, Dr. Ward. My naturopath is Kathy who owns Totally Natural Remedies out of Airdrie.

Does anyone know a good accupuncturist in Calgary?

Dr. Alyssa Gaul is a really good naturopath in Calgary. I think she's on 14 St NW.

Hi Again Sierra,

I posted a question about a good acupuncturist the other day on another Canadian Board
You need to sign up up to read the post but incase you are interested the two that I was recommended were

Leslie Ring-Adams at the Calgary Winter Club 289-0040
&
Angela (Angie) Fingler at the Acupuncture & Wellness Clinic 253-3103

These were both recommended by FH's clinic pateints. I am hoping to check them both out when dh's benefits kick in but feel free to share any experience that you have.

I'm in Toronto and have heard from other doctors that the RE I see is the best in Toronto. His name is:

Dr. Patrick Hewlett
700 Bay Street, Suite 604
Toronto, ON
(416) 591-3992

Highly recommend him!!!!!! He is the best doctor I have ever seen. He took me seriously and finally diagnosed me after other doctors have told me "it's all in my head" bs. Nope. It's PCOS. Now we are TTC and I am confident he will help us get pg!!!!!!!
