well if I hear of one in your area, I will let you know.
It's a shame that there are not more options when it comes to doctors for us Canadians.
I lucked out when I moved to Kelowna. The first doctor I met was an idiot and refused to listen to me & lied. I found another doctor who knows alot about PCOS & has done more reading about it since I have become a patient. In my short time being here, she has been fantastic. Everytime I read something about something may work...I type it out, & approach her & she says lets give it a try & follows through with it.
She never once said that I was on Metformin because of diabetes(which all my past dr's have)
I do see her on Thursday so I will see if she may even have any friends or recommendations in your area.
In the meanwhile we can only hope that some endocrinologist out here follows the route of the PCOS clinic in Toronto...now that could be helpful.
Anyways...
Have a good weekend.

I'm so glad you found a good doctor.
My family doctor is an idiot, he doesn't give me any solutions he just tells me it's because of what i have or he pritty much tells me it's all in my head.
I wish my obgyn was closer and i didn't have to be referred every time, it would be so much easier.
It would be really nice if you could ask your doctor for me, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
You have a grate weekend too.

Cole - I'm in Oakville - where is Adrian Brown in Toronto? What has he done about your PCOS? My doctor is making me an appointment with an endorcrinologist Dr. Twum-Barima at the Living Metabolism Centre in Oakville - hopefully I'll get in in May. I have to admit, I'm really looking for a doctor who will put me on metformin. If a doctor tells me just to lose weight I think I'll scream as this is why it has been so difficult for me to lose weight (I finally know!). I have no plans to have kids, just sick of the weight thing and of course nervous about the other conditions I am more prone to - my dad has Type 2 Diabetes, so did his dad - there's also breast cancer, high blood pressure and heart disease in my family.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens with this doctor - I'm praying he'll put me on metformin and that it works. I'm just so frustrated...
Allyson.

Hello,

yes Adrain is in Toronto. He works out of North York General..so you will need a referal. He has put me on Met. I decided to see him b/c my family docotr was a bit laid back..just put me on Birth control which doesn't solve the problem. I tried provera as well adn it made me feel like moody wacko. I then discovered soulcycsters and read up on treatments did some research of my own and went to see Adrian Brown. He was knowledgeable and friendly and he gave me my choices..I chose Met. I had already tried the other two things BCP and Provera. I am on 1500mg daily and things ahve been pretty good. I feel better not as hungry. I weigh myself Friday so I will be able to tell if has assisted me in my weightloss plan. I eat a very low carb diet and excercise religiously. Dr. Brown explained that PCOS is very much a metabolic disorder..so hopefully Met will even out the playing field for me. Good Luck! let me knwo how things go for you.

Any recommendations in Eastern Canada?
All my doctors so far don't have a clue about PCOS. I end up educating them with what little I know about it and that's just not right in my books at all.
Doctors SHOULD know more than their patients.

Okay I'm going to answer myself (I do a lot of that IRL as well).
I went to a new OB/GYN this afternoon and from my short visit he seems knowledgeable about PCOS.
He's in Antigonish and his name is Dr.Wescott.

Any suggestions of a doctor in Toronto/GTA who will work with someone who is not TTC immediately? I'm looking more for help with control, but hopefully if I find someone good, I would like to stay with them once we decide to start TTC. (I have a GP)
Thanks for any suggestions!

We have found a huge amount of support, information and guidance at the McMaster Centre for Reproductive Care. Dr. Shilpa Amin and Dr. Karnis are 2 of the best doctors that I have ever had the privilege of meeting. They really have a way of keeping your spirits up and giving you the straight answer for your situation.

I'm looking for an endo in the Toronto area who knows about PCOS. I'm not TTC and will never be. I've been to two and they don't know much. I know there have been some recommendations on gyno's, but I'd really like an endo. Please let me know. Thanks!

Question From Hamilton and looking for a great RE and Naturopath

Can someone help us???? We're looking for a great RE and Naturopath in Hamilton, Ontario. We've been TTC for 3 years without success. We know that it's PCOS and have been through Clomid 4 times at Mac without any success. We're just looking in a different direction for a little while and then we'll go back to MAc and maybe combine all three (somethings gotta work!!!!)

Thanks in advanced,
Kate

As far as Eastern Canada goes...I am from Cape Breton, and after 25 years I was finally diagnosed by an OBGYN I was referred to. NO ONE had anything good to say about him, and people loved to talk about his bad bedside behaviour and no tolerance for anyone who is the slightest bit overweight. Well I write this letting you know he was the MOST THOROUGH physician I have ever seen. He did everything he could for me, and after 2 years of TTC with PCOS and Endometriosis I FINALLY got pregnant after seeing him for only 1 year and 4 months. No fertility treatments, just followed what he said and asked of me. Here is his information:

Name: GARDNER, Angus James
Address: Cape Breton Regional Hospital
1482 George St Sydney, Nova Scotia Canada B1P 1P3
Phone: 902 567 8118
Fax: 902 567 8116
Reg #: 004042
Specialty: Obstetrics & Gynaecology
Degree: MD
Grad Year: 1973
School: Dalhousie University

Again, I firmly believe to not always believe what you hear about a doctor. While seeing him I got 2 diagnosed with 2 conditions I never even knew I had, just suffered from the symptoms my whole life, I lost 25 pounds effortlessly, and I am now pregnant after being told I never would be. I actually CRIED when I found out he couldn't see me anymore once I got pregnant. I knew that he could only see me until that point, but I grew to love seeing this doctor on a regular basis.

Default Ottawa - PCOS Friendly Doc!

Hi all!

I trust that there are a few of us here in Ottawa that have difficulty with family physicians. Especially, those of us that don't have a family physician and are stuck with community clinics. It seems that none of them are ready to hand out a referral or to send you off for testing these days. I've lucked out, with, believe it or not, an Appletree Medical Center Clinic for a referral by a wonderful physician by the name of Dr. Sweet. The specialist he referred me to is Dr. Nasser Beshara (OBGYN). He can be contacted with the following information...

139 Greenbank Rd, Suite 202A
Ottawa ON K2H 9A5
Tel: (613) 721-7111
Fax: (613) 721-3667

I hope you girls are enjoying the summer weather. Cheers!

Default Endo in TO

I see Dr. Laredo at the Women's College Hospital. Super nice and knows a lot. You need a referral. You don't need to be ready to get pregnant to see her and she will put you on metformin if you ask.

Metformin is not working for me. Too many GI side effects so I will try a holistic/diet approach next.

About Women's College, it is a teaching hospital, so an intern will see you first everytime. You'll have to go over you history with him/her and then Dr. Laredo will come in to see you. For that, give yourself at least an hour for your appointment.

Good luck!
