Veg- I lived in Calgary. I met Dr Bahayana only once before I moved, but she was very nice and understanding. She also heard me out. Something I had difficulty with in Calgary from other doctors. She's right downtown.

Now I have moved back to Hamilton ON and have finally decided to get back into the treatment game. I have an appointment with an Endo Dr Myerson on Friday. Has anyone heard if he's good? Oh and I have an appt with a Gyne Dr Stopp on May first as well. Anyone heard anything about him either???

So I will make this quick.
I have thyroid issues and was referred to Dr. David Thompson(endocrinologist) in Vancouver. He is is suppose to be one of Canada's top thyroid specialists.
We went to see him last week and our visit was awesome. Although I didn't originally see him for my PCOS, I will be following up with him.
At my point of dealing with PCOS, I am not looking for traditional treatments but something outside the box. Dr. T. was definately willing to think out side the box and actually mentioned medications that will be available in Canada later this year(or next) that will be a huge help to women with PCOS. Because they are not approved for treatment, my guess is that most doctors will not be willing to prescribe them. Kind of like when Metformin was first introduced. Well Dr. T. is willing to think outside the box and prescribe non typical meds, if they work. He also didn't say anything about my weight, and was actaully really helpful and knowledgable. Bedside manner wasn't great but at this point, I only want proper treatment.
Dr. Michael is amazing. I feel totally comfortable with him and trust him. thanks to him we have DD and are expecting another miracle. he has 3 clinics (Mississauga, Brampton and Bolton, though the Bolton clinic is fairly new and hasn't been added to their website yet). here's the site: http://www.astrafertility.com/contact.html

Sudbury, Dr. Betrand (very thorough) diagnosed PCOS, referred me to Dr. Provatopolus (OBGYN) (clomid), both good docs easy to talk with...understands PCOS!!
For those of you looking for reviews of physicians, don't forget to check out this site.
Although it is views of people without PCOS, it can still give you a good idea what a doctor is like. Don't forget to share your experiences and hopefully help others avoid dealing with doctors that are less than pleasurable to work with.

But take things with a grain of salt. My dr is on there. Dr Stopps, in Hamilton. And people have said some pretty negative things about him. I personally love him.

Update...
So I met with Dr. Lee today...and things went well.
She was worth the drive from Kelowna to New Westminster.
Things haven't changed much as far as PCOS goes, so I have remained on typical treatment upping my doses of Glumetza and finally starting Vaniqua(which I wasn't aware was now available in Canada)
However, depending on how things go over the next year, we may try another route. She definately was not afraid to think outside the box, and though she was not familiar of some of the treatment plans I suggested, she also wasn't afraid to try them.
If you are in BC and looking for good endo, I would highly recommend the trip to New Westminster to meet with the only PCOS competent doctor I have met since moving west.
UPDATE #2
After all, my appointment wasn't as great as I thought. The Vaniqa I was told was available is not and the doctors solution is to drive 3 hours to the nearest pharmacy in the U.S. and get my prescription filled. She had promised me Flutamide in a years time, if things didn't work with the Vaniqa and when the time came because I couldn't get Vaniqa, she refused to prescribe me Flutamide and didn't offer any other options(which I later learned by another endocrinologist there are many). That to me is very disappointing.
I also met a few weeks later with another doctor for other reasons and will be following up with him for my PCOS. He is awesome, knowledgable and willing to think outside the box. There's another post further down, or on another page.
Hi BeetleGirl,
I'm sorry to hear things didn't go well with Dr. Lee. I haven't found anything here yet, but I haven't searched very hard. I've got an appointment with a Naturopathic Physician later this month, I dunno if it will be worth it.
So which doctor did you meeting up with that you'll be seeing for your PCOS? In Kelowna?

Dr. Ruth Farey, I first met her when my family doctor retired to the states. She has a busy practice but lots of patients/clients who have PCOS. Positive attitude and none of that medical or talking down crap. She talks to you like a human being with real concerns. I always go in with a list of questions and never feel rushed. Just let the receptionist that books your appointent know.

I have a GYNO/OBGYN Dr. Lukmaan Waja. He is an amazing DR, I totally love him, he is supportive, however I don't agree with everything he says. I think the disagreements come from him probably not knowing everything about PCOS. He is reluctant to keep me on Metformin throughout the pregnancy.

I know someone has mentioned Drs. O'Grady and Healey in Newfoundland - I've only dealt with O'Grady once - she did my HSG, which was not fun! - but I haven't had a great experience with Healey. I've spoken with a lot of overweight women with and without PCOS who have had negative experiences with her. Here in this province, though, they are the only two RE's, so it's not like we have a choice - but I personally feel that Dr. Healey isn't PCOS friendly at all. My GP on the other hand, Lydia Hatcher, is amazing and dx'ed me with PCOS ten years ago.
