Lastnight I took my son Joshua in because he was getting some weird looking spots on his arms that looked like old age spots. He is only 4.5 yrs so they looked way out of place. I wasnt thinking it was very serious but wanted to have it checked out.Especially since he has darker skin then me and I just got over shinggles and worried that this could maybe what he had. What they told me had me bawling and scared all at the same time. They told me he has cafe' spots and did a few tests on him. They want him to be seen by a genetics counselor and eye dr's soon because they think he has a condition simular to the Elephant Man syndrome. Im scared to death. We know a small amount about his birth mom and nothing about his birth father making things even harder to help understand where this all falls into place. Please pray for my sweet little boy. ANd please say one for his parents who are trying to hold it together. Thanks in advance. Love-Lesia

Thankyou to all my wonderful cysters. Im scared but my nerves took over a bit and now im a mad mom on a mission. I got in touch with the eye doctors office and they have been pushing me off a bit. After 5 phone calls and me threatening I was going to come down they miraculusly (ya right) found the letter the doctor sent over and had the eye dr read all the info on it. They were telling me it would be around august or sept before they would get him in. As soon as he read it he was able to fit him in this month.The dr is leaving but as soon as he comes in Joshua is his first patient of the day. That day is March 23rd. I guess one of the big things with children that have this end up having tummors on the back of the eyes. So we have to keep a special eye ( no pun intended) on them.
Then I FINALLY got hold of the office that brings up a specialist 2 to 3 times a year if needed from the University of Washington. My doctor was pretty upset with his findings and pushed for the genetics group to come up sooner then later. Tentitively they will come up in 3 weeks if not sooner and I was told it is going to be a team of people so it has us allitle relieved but somewhat more nervous at the same time. This will make it a little easier so they have to deal with plain tickets instead of us. If we must go though we are ready and will do whatever it takes.
If any of you have a prayer list or anything please add my babies name on it for us. We need all the prayers we can get. I will keep updating so check often. Love-Lesia

Hi, I know what you are talking about. It is neurofibromatosis. My nephew has this and has these spots all over him and he has 1 little tumor behind his ear. Which is another area you have to watch for them but they are usually always benign. I sent you a PM with some info and my Mom who has custody of my nephew could be a big help to you as she knows pretty much everything to know about this. She is a huge advocate for this issue.
