For those of you who have successfully brought on AF with these herbs, what has been your timeline. I do realize that everyone is different, so the ranges will vary. Also, was AF acheived using a tincture or capsule?
My daughter,13, has been taking them for only a week (capsules- Vitex 400mg and dq 565mg). I'm feeling kinda anxious because I will take her back to the endo tomorrow and he had previously suggested pills, patches and shots- the whole lot, but I'm not going to accept any of it right now. I just need a little encouragement in knowing that the herbs usually have a high success rate of bringing AF- even though the time lines are different from person to person.
Has anyone experienced vaginal soreness with these herbs? Thanks.
I hadn't had AF since August 2002 (6 months) and started Vitex & Dong Quai capsules in January 2003 and February 26th I got AF!!! I also take NPC but I've been told that I could probably have AF without NPC and just the Vitex and Dong Quai.
I have noticed some vaginal sensitivity but not really a soreness.
I WISH my mom would have known about herbs when I was your dd age instead of having to take bcp!!!! Good for you!
I'll be crossing my fingers that it works for you!
I just started back on my herbs on Feb 2 and got AF last week. Now it was spotty for a few days and it is a longer time of bleeding than 'normal' but I know from past experience that it will improve. I take
Right now I am taking the highest bottle dosage recommendation of
vitex
dong quai
siberian ginseng
hawthorn
evening primrose oil
saw palmetto
and one a day B6, kelp, multivitamin, vitamin E
When I conceived my daughter (many years ago now) it took about 10 months for my cycles to get down to 32 days and then I conceived. Since weaning her I have used herbs off and on but not very consistently and experimenting with different things. Now I am sticking with what worked to regulate me the first time and I am taking it very consistently.
I take capsules (Nature's Way brand which I have been very happy with) Sheri

I think it is great that you are taking interest in your daughters cycles and trying other alternatives besides birth control. From everything I have read vitex tends to lengthen out cycles, so cycles between 28-42 days are perfectly normal and healthy. It doesn't matter how long in a sense that the cycle is as long as your daughter is having one at least every three months.
I took vitex the GNC brand (3 times a day) about a year ago and had 40-42 day cycles in which I ovulated each cycle for three consecutive months. But I was trying to get pregnant and thought that the cycle lengths were too long so I stopped taking it and my cycles were irregular again. I visited with a RE in virginia beach and was tested and told that everything was ok and tried clomid for 3 cycles with no success.
Since December I have been taking Femaprin I ordered online (vitex and B-6 combo) that I take once a day and my cycles are about 40 days again. But at least I am having AF regularly, so I guess 40 cd's is my magic number.
So hang in there, I am sure within a few months you will see a pattern in her cycles.

In the last 8 years, I've had maybe one or two natural periods a year. I had to be on BCPs or Provera to get a regular period. I was on Dong Quai for a month and got a period. I was amazed to say the least.
I only took it for that one month. I found the IR Diet, and that works just as well for me. I'm not a pill popper. Even though it was herbal, the Dong Quai made me feel like I had to take meds to be ok, which I'd rather not do. So, I don't know if it would have kept working that well.
