I have been reading and just a recent post by April, and I have a question...
Why is it that people don't move on to IUI after a couple or or a few failed rounds of clomid I am reading that it's like beneath some to move on to that kind of fertility because it's not "natural" well in my mind you do what you have to to get pregnant, I guess I could be reading into to it too much OR I just impatient and when I see people have a chance why not take it! I just called this morning after 2 failed cycles and REQUESTED and IUI this next cycle maybe because of my age but even if a 25 year old had the chance why not go for it? OR is it personal issue?
I am trying to understand and trying to understand where my hubby was at one point too he "thought" the same way now he is just as frustrated as I am...and has even agreed to take vitamins and change to a different underware all to help with concieving!!!

It was a difficult for my husband to accept the concept of an IUI because that's the big step where you are saying... "Look. We aren't going to conceive this child through intercourse." I think it's a jump to a point where you take the last little bit of romance out of it and I think that's hard. Even when we are popping pills and taking injections, checking our temperatures and monitoring our mucus... there is still sex. There is still a little bit of intimacy in the process. When you choose to do an IUI, everything changes.
This is just what my experience has been... others may see it differently. But in my opinion, taking the actual act of intercourse out of the equation is a tough pill to swallow.

My only issue with it is it's not covered by my insurance! lol
I think, again THINK, some people say "unnatural" as in, not DTD naturally. It becomes a scientific/medical procedure, rather than a natural act blessed by God. I'm sure this isn't the case for everyone, just some, and thats how i would interpret the term, "unnatural".

Really and I think totally different it's still going to be YOUR child but you want to feel macho and do the deed?!?! That is what I told my hubby not what I am telling you all...so don't take what I just said wrong. I guess with my age I am thinking along a different train of thought..nothing wrong with it just different and like your response helps me understand why people do not think like I do LOL!!

And I agree smeets! It's not unnatural if you ask me. That is how my hubby thought too it makes me now understand his machismo (he is from mexico) and when he found that he was part if not all of the problem he changed his way of thinking FAST! Not that I remind him of it but I said if we are going to have a baby we need to exhaust all options!!! AND you have to do your part and he has been an obedient hubby every since! LOL!!

I think a lot of men that have MFI take it as a hit to their ego. When i got my BFP, my BF said something along the lines of, "i'm the man!!". LOL, not sure why itg ives them such a boost to their ego, but once they have a "problem", i think it's in their nature to "fix" it. I guess to some men, IUI is giving up, and not being able to be a "REAL man".

Yea it's just in their head! Well the one that thinks! lol!! I am stressing over really wanting to get the IUI and they just called and said that the doctor has my chart and will be getting back with me I am sure it will be another round on 150mg so I guess I will accept that just for one more and then I will demand to move on...

I never said it was unnatural or not "macho" or whatever. I just think its... LESS INTIMATE. There is something wonderfully intimate about making love to my husband. And I would love nothing more than to conceive our child that way. Unfortunately, that's not going to be the case and that was difficult for both of us to accept. But we've accepted it and moved on. My second IUI is tomorrow morning and he'll have his "alone time" with his little cup in the morning and that'll be that. Fine. But I won't lie and tell you that a tiny part of me isn't just a little bit sad that we can't conceive a child at home, in our bedroom.
It doesn't have anything to do with god, I'm not religious in the slightest. And I don't think unnatural is the right term. It really just comes down to the intimacy that I feel like I'm missing out on.

Yep, was just my opinion. For some it may be a God, issue, and like i also said, it becomes a "procedure", rather than an intimate moment together at home (whether it's blessed or not blessed by God.. lol) :-)

I'm for doing IUI, but dh isn't so much. He never thought "he" would have to use a turkey baster to get a girl pregnant (his words). I personally feel it would take the ttc stress off of us. The bd timing is really getting to both of us and has negatively affected our sex life (it's been almost 2 years of ttc and 2 m/c). I thought it would be a one time thing doing the IUI without forced sex, then we could bd for fun, not out of necessity.
Do I wish we could conceive naturally like most people, sure, but that has gone by the wayside once I started pills, and most likely shots in the near future.
Some religions, especially Catholicism do not allow IUI or IVF - they say it adds a 3rd party to the man and wife of trying to conceive. I am Catholic and disagree with it, but they say every time you have intercourse, you have to be open to the idea of conception. I guess going in a cup and having it injected into your uterus in hopes of conceiving isn't good enough.

For me - it was a non-issue. The Dr said after my surgery that due to my cervix that conceiving on our own would be quite difficult. At that point hubby knew what he was going to have to do. He has sucked it up two times and I'm glad he has. We are currently waiting for the results.
You know I understand the intimacy issue, but we still have that. Heck, even the Dr tells us to go home and do-the-deed after the IUI. You know, at the point that you are going to the dr and taking meds, shots, or whatever I think the 'natural' part has flown out the window. I think our intimacy has even increased knowing that we don't have to worry about the timing of sex to make a baby.

You know I feel that is what happens to ours too like after the "timed" love making is over our love making becomes just that intimate! It's not so stressed and having to do it to catch the eggies on those days well makes it much more enjoyable..so I agree we still can and have our intimate moments!
