My Mood: Points: 4,980.44 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 4,980.44 | PLZ someone!?!?! ok i went to my PCP in October (?) to figure out what the cause of my weight issues were.... or why..... i had gained nearly 100lbs in a single YEAR it was absolutely horrible i had had acne since fourth grade dandruff that you would not believe and just oily skin in general..... my hair fizzed unbelievably A( for those who dont know i have found articles that related the 2) i started my period on May 23, 2006 ( i had band concert that day ) it has been pretty regular skipped a month here and there i cramp very bad and also its heavy. i seem to have thinning hair although it is so frizzy that it dose not matter.
( although im very blonde like almost bleached i can see hair all over my arms a mustache ( all really ligh tbut still there!!! also on the tops of my hands and knuckles and and i have hair like a strip from my belly button down ( black) ... TMI srry)
ok so i went to my PCP and he ordered blood test to test for diabetes and hypothyroidism ( SP?) the results came back neg. but i had an unbalance in my cholesterol.... low good normal bad during the initial visit he asked if i have ever heard of PCOS..... i told him yes because i had and then when i went to the follow up he said he had put a referral to the endocrinologist in before the tests came back ( or thats what he made it sound like to me ) i have not seen the endo yet but the insurance company is NEARLY there just waiting on an appointment!!!
so im asking is there a chance that i have PCOS???? ( i also have a skin tag which is very small in between my breasts)
srry it soooo long thanks in advance any replies are appriciated !!!!!!!

Sometimes a name for what is wrong helps a bit, then u need to look at how u deal with it. Your endo will give u good advise so try not to worry. We are all here for u ok! |

some people have different symtpons from others , some may be perfect weight but have hair and fertitility issues , i think it mainly depends on the person ect
keep us posted and good luck , i also agree that finding the right doctor is important cos a lot of doctors just dismiss it

I know i'm not a teen, but hey, i feel like it sometimes, and jess knows what i am like, lol.
To Sarah and Sam,
Yes it does sound like PCOS, though please be aware that it could also be something else that has some of the same symptons.
I will say if you are diagnosed with PCOS, then try to get a good book, e.g, 'Managing PCOS for Dummies@ (i use this and have found it helpful for family and friends to read too). And along with a book, keep comin back onto SC as you will find help and support in many ways, and also friends.

Points: 753.96 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 753.96 | It's so important to keep testing for various things. A few years ago, I asked my (former) family doctor to check my hormone levels because i had been reading up on it and felt there was an imbalance. Had some tests - nothing came back. Eventually switched family doctors and the new one caught the RIGHT hormones right away and voila -- PCOS became a part of my vocabulary.
It's important that you spare no detail to your doctors. My shyness about how crazy heavy my period actually was delayed my diagnosis for years.
Good luck!
