I would like to create a sticky of literature that comforted us at one time or another. I'll contribute a poem that was sent to me a while back and search for others through these archives that I can cut and paste from. I look forward to seeing what we come up with for this little "library". Thanks in advance!

I received this poem when my daughter's birthday arrived. For a late Autumn birth and death, it does feel right.
In Blackwater Woods
Look, the trees
are turning
their own bodies
into pillars
of light,
are giving off the rich
fragrance of cinnamon
and fulfillment,
the long tapers
of cattails
are bursting and floating away over
the blue shoulders
of the ponds,
and every pond,
no matter what its
name is, is
nameless now.
Every year
everything
I have ever learned
in my lifetime
leads back to this: the fires
and the black river of loss
whose other side is
is salvation,
whose meaning,
none of us will ever know.
To live in this world
you must be able
to do three things:
to love what is mortal
to hold it
against your own bones knowing
your own life depends on it;
and, when the time come to let it go,
to let it go.

Into The West
Lay down,

White shores are calling.

God, Sheri - you've got me blubbering all over myself. I just had to leave the office altogether because I lost it. Those poems are beautiful. I'll do some searching this week. If I forget, somebody give me a kick in the butt - I'm not too motivated this week.
