You get points mainly by posting. If you start a new thread, that's 15pts, and everytime you respond to a thread, that's 5 points (I think the Game section is the one exception...only 1pt for everything there). People may also donate points to you or when you have enough points, you can try your luck at the lottery.
You're welcome to join my Newbie Karma Swap thread if you want a stress free place to make some posts. I also have a Make A Wish Gift Exchange thread where we hand out gifts to each other (those little icons).
