Default A POLL: BC vs. No Bc

How many of you are being treated for PCOS with or without the use of Birth Control?

My birth control is for that purpose - I don't want children. It was just a conincidence that I've been on Diane/Estelle which is also prescribed for PCOS symptoms.

I was on BC at different stages through out my PCOS... they had to play around trying me on different types to see what would work best on me, personally I found Diane 35 was the best, but Im currently not on any meds because they are running a bunch of tests right now..

I'm not on BCPs... never have been. We're going to start TTC in 6 mos or so, and not being on the pill will let me know if I'm "working" right.

No BCP here. I did take them before I was diagnosed, and looking back they didn't help me much. I just take progesterone on the 1-10 of each month now.

No BCPs here. In fact, I specifically sought out doctors halfway across the country, because they have expertise at treating PCOS without BCPs. (Which is a pain, but none of my local doctors would do anything but BCPs.)

I was on BCPs for years before my dx. I stopped taking BCPs about 16 months ago so that DH and I could TTC. I was dx about 6 months ago. When I took BCPs, I did not notice any symptoms, which is probably why I wasn't dx until we TTC.

Good luck!

I was put on Yasmin right after my diagnosis. Still on it. It helped immensely with the acne and skin problems.

Hi. So then how are you treating the BCPs? I'd like to know what you are doing to control your symptoms.

My doctor did my treatment with BCP's, because my Testo levels were so high, and the BCP's brought them down fast!!

I have used BCP's on and off, not specifically for PCOS though. I have used them for my endometriosis mainly, and for birth control.

For my PCOS, my doctor has preferred treating me with Glucophage rather than BCP's (which aren't really the first line treatment anymore, I think).

Hi Stacie,

If you don't mind sharing, please could you tell me how you have found using bcps for your endo? I have suspected endometriosis (having lap in 3 weeks) - and I seem to be having less (though not perfect!) pain when taking Yasmin continuously for 2 months and then having a break. I've not tried taking it longer than 2 months, but I suspect I will be instructed to.

Which pills have you used, and what success rating would you give?

I have a horrid feeling that even though I have so many symptoms of endo, they might not find anything, so I'll just have to get on with it! My pain issues are constant, though seem to get better after the 4th week of continuous pills....I'm still a bit confused!

Thanks for reading, and congratulations on your pregnancy, I bet you're so excited and happy! xx
