[POLL - PLEASE VOTE] Birth Announcements in Sidebar?
I'm sure by now you're read that in the next few weeks, SoulCysters is going to get a brand new design.
Question: Would you all want to have a forum JUST for birth announcments? The forum would also 'post' in a sidebar box that would appear in the RIGHT column of the board (where the banners currently are, but it would be a smaller box.)
I know that many of us don't frequent The MotherHood, but we'd still like to know when new babies arrive.
On the flip side, I know that many cysters still TTC are quite sensitive to seeing birth announcments.
Talk amongst yourselves, and let me know what you think.
I'm back and forth with the new board designer, and we were discussing having a 'birth announcement' box created.

I would like it if adoptions would be included. I think although some Cysters are sensitive I think sometimes it can add a smile to a crappy day to see someone you used to chat with or know about become a parent and know eventually it will happy to most of us in one capacity or another.
My opinion and Thanks Kat for a wonderful safe place to go

If we end up doing a sidebar, I'll have to set up two 'announcement subforums' (on in adoption and one in mommy or pregs), burn a feed for each one, and then aggregate the feed for the sidebar - all simple but necessary so that it creates a single feed for the sidebar...

Well, I don't give a rat's ass about who's sensitive to what, but it'd be pretty annoying to have something forced on you when if you're *really* curious, you could just take a trip to the forum and find out. A sidebar is redundant.
It's redundant if you're someone who visits the 'motherhood' forums on a regular basis.
As has been stated, not everyone does, and we miss some of the announcements.
I'm 'really' curious, but as the admin of the site, I don't really have time to actively read every thread in every forum. The same goes for mods, and others with limited time to browse what is a VERY active board.
Sidebars aren't a way of forcing anyone to read anything...it's simply another way of displaying information.
Sorry the concept annoys you. You should work on that

...then maybe people (barring you and mods, if you're so busy) should make more of an effort to visit the motherhood forum. Or create an announcement-only thread, no comments allowed, and let people bookmark that to make it part of their daily/weekly/monthly rounds. That way you get all the new babies/adoptions in one place and can send people email/PMs/talk to them in chat and congratulate them. Or put something in the announcement thread, and then begin their own thread with all the nitty gritty details.
I know I'm in the minority here, but it really does seem like it's taking up space and making everyone read it (including those 'sensitive cases' everyone is always tiptoeing around) because interested parties couldn't be arsed to take a few minutes to click around. *shrug*
