Poll : Weight & Clomid

I just wondered if any of you would mind just jotting down for me at what weight you were when you were prescribed clomid and where you live in the country... The reason im asking everyone to do this is im having so many issues with getting clomid due to my weight i just want to see how it varies around the country....

Thank you very much in advance for your co-operation it is very much appreciated... i understand that you may not want to put your weight down on here if you could PM it that would be fine too... or even just clarify you was over a certain amount of lbs's I.E 250lb's

Well i am in Kentucky, USA and recieved my first prescription when I was 276. I am at 248 now and can still request prescriptions with no problems.

how are u?? i havent seen u around 4 ages?? im currently on clomid and weigh about 16 stone.

I am in Sidcup in Kent and weigh 22 stone and had no trouble getting clomid!!

Kelli : Thank you very much for posting back its good to know that you are getting it over there at a higher weight..

Siany : Im good hun getting there i have a rotten cold at the moment aswell as putting up with all this stuff from the dr's..I went to see another Gynae cos i wasnt happy about with the first one and im still being told i cant have clomid..I had a right go about it and the man who i saw which wasnt even my proper consultant i was suppose to see said that he will try and see if the proper cons will give it to me and ring me back today and so far i havent had a phonecall typical...How is it all going for you ????

Snow White : Thank you so much for you reply i am so glad to see that you havent had any issues getting Clomid I only live about 30 mins id say from sidcup on a train and at this monent i would come over to kent to see you dr..I am so annoyed with the fact that my health authority is the only one who seems not to treat anyone with a BMI over 30 so you have totally perked me up on this subject as i now have some amunition to show the dr's to see that it is being prescribed to people my weight and over im currently 20st 5lb... Please keep me posted on how your doing hun...

I think it is awful you are going through this!! I am so sorry!!
I have a had really good experience. My gp is also a gyno and referred me to the fertility unit straight away and without judgement about my weight. The fertility consultant was great and only mentioned my weight in relation to the ultrasound I was having. Just to say its slightly harder to visualize my ovaries, but other then that they were great.

BTW-I am under Queen Mary's Sidcup which is a very cash strapped hospital and still I had no issues. They just asked my gp to prescribe it, easy peasy!! I think your doc is being very awkward...

You are not the only one with this problem!! I live in Central London and my Gyn is at the UCH.... he will only prescribe me Clomid if I get my weight under 75kg (whihc I think is about 11 and half stone)?

He has still given me Metformin and thank goodness I fell pg with my daughter with just weight loss and Met.

Currently I am 13 stone 10lbs (at my heaviest I was 18stone 4lbs).... so I nned to loose another 2 stone at least by March which is when my next appoitment is.... or I need to fall pregnant lol

On one hand I feel angry, gutted and peanalised for being heavier than other women and not being able to receive the same treatment..... on the other hand not being able to get the treatment until my weight is down has been a real push for me to loose the weight...

I think its totally crap that they have different rules for different parts of the country - we all pay the same taxes for the NHS!! Surely all the drs and medical professions should agree to an extent regarding weight and these medicines?? Its very frustrating...

That is so crap!! This is why people ending up buying clomid from the internet!! My friend in Scotland had a similar problem and she went to her doc and told him she was going to take clomid whether he prescribed it or not and that if he didn't she would buy it online. He prescribed it in the end!!

SnowWhite : Thank you so much for letting me know what hossie you go to i will bear that in mind for future reference I do have a back up plan my dr as much as told me that if the gynae wouldnt help then he will but i am just hoping he doesnt do a uturn and change his mind hence why im looking at other options just to cover every angle.....

Nyk : i am so sorry you are having the same problem it so obvious to me that it is the london hostpitals that seem to be the worst...let alone its ok for these great hostpial to have thousands of cases of mrsa let they still think there the best thing since sliced bread...I hope that you get something sorted soon....

Keep them coming girlies this is getting more interesting by the minute..

Good Luck Teresa! I hope you are able to get it!! Just another thought, I have heard that clomid is not very expensive if you bought it on a private prescription. Maybe they would give you a private prescription? I had planned to that if they gave me a hard time about it.

Oh im so glad this question came up, i was sent to st thomas hospital london to see the fertility clinic when i wanted ttc and they weighed me and sent me on my way saying i needed to lose 6 stone i was 20 stone something then, and they only start clomid treatment when you are 14 stone or under, so since then ive never ever thought about trying again, now i know that some drs will prescribe it if you are heavier, thats very interesting to know.

i think each doctor must make there own mind up!! so stupid!! my doctor has always been fine about it and started me on met and clomid the first time i saw him!

Snow White : Thank you for telling me that i will check it out cos my mum works in a chemist so she will know how much a private presciption for Clomid is...So i will definatly find out...

Thameside : I am so sorry to hear you are going through the same thing as me..I am a bit of a defeatest and i have never given up trying as i thought there might be an offchance that one time it might happen on its own...If i was you i would seriously go to your GP armed with this information on this thread showing him that people are getting it over 14 st and explain that you could buy if from the interenet if you wanted to but your rather do it with there permission and monitering if nothing that might just spur them into action and realise your serious or look into the private presciption thing too cos i definatly am...This is the third dr i have seen at my practice and he is the only one willing to help me if the gynae doesnt so i urge you to try a few different dr's tiill you get the right one...who realises you need is as great as the next person...Good luck and keep me posted....

Me : Well guess what happened this morning i got an appointement through from the gynae department at that same hospital for me to see a consultant that my dr origanally requested and i was given someone totally different than who my dr requested and they gave me the your too fat speech... The person my dr orginally wanted me to see is a person friend of his and he was convinced he would help me but when it came to the receptionist sorting out the appointment they gave me someone else..So i have an appointment with my GP tomorrow so i will ask him whether i go to this appointment or not...I am so confused right now...Oh and still no phonecall on the clomid situation...Oh how the NHS has fallen...
