Default Polycystic Kidneys etc.

Does anyone know if having PCOS increases your chances of having other polycystic organs like kidneys, liver etc.?

well, from what I have read, cysts on ovaries are systematic of the metabolic disorder that is really PCOS. SO, I don't think having PCOS raises risks of cysts elsewhere. However, if someone has cystic ovaries, it does not necessarily mean PCOS, so, perhaps there is another disorder that could lead to systemaic cysts. Ironically, I was first diagnosed with PKD, polycystic kidney disease, which runs very strongly in my family. My PKD and PCOS are not related. I am just a lucky girl.

Thanks! I didn't think there was a connection. It was just something I thought "well maybe". I see a lot of patients with PKD and always wondered about that. It makes sense though what you said. Cysts are a symptom of PCOS and not the cause.

Thanks for responding!
