OMG, I just got back form the bathroom and read your post... This is terrible, I know what your going though casue I'm right there. I mean why don't I just pee out of my a**hole? I've been on met for about 3 months, started at 1000mg with no problems at all then moved up to 1500mg about a month ago and it seems the last week it's really doing a number on me. Today has been especially bad and I'm at work and have to use a public washroom and it totally sucks. I mean the stink and the sounds, it's so bad. I know way TMI!
I have no advice for you, I just hope this goes away and I wanted to let you know your so not alone.
Happy pooping.
Jo

I wonder if your diet is to blame? I know I am suffering today from the same sad state of affairs you describe - I am a hurting unit today! But I am fairly sure I am to blame. I had eggs for lunch, and a few handfuls of chocolate covered raisins. BOTH of these cause me troubles. I know better, but had them anyway. Same goes with fried foods and lettuce. I would suggest to you that you make sure you have a carb with every meal too. That will help somewhat. AmyK
I had the same problem with Metformin/Glucophage.. spent most of the day for weeks at a time in the bathroom... went for tests dr's cameup with weird and wonderful things i could have, but i changed gp and she realised it was the metformin, i was on 2000mg a day, even 1500mg upset me, i am now only on 1000mg a day and insulin, occasionally i get a bout of running to the bathroom but it doesnt last for long.

Hey guys. I know just how you feel. It was killing me for three weeks. I felt so drained and could never leave the house. I finally got to the point that I got some imodium tablets and that really helped. I took two together before bed and then the next time I took one. Just like the directions said. Those two doses lasted for almost two days. When it came back I took two more. The imodium seems to work for a couple days. It honestly helps.
Also I have been eating fuji apples. Yesterday I ate two and I think the fiber in the apples is really helping. Plus the apples are wonderfully sweet and delicious. I'm on 1500 extended release Glucophage and still have side effects and cannot take them all together. I still have diarrhea but it is not as bad now that I split up the pills. (I don't split the pills per say I just take them at seperate times.)
Hope this helps. I to hope the side effects continue to lessen over time. I haven't had a normal bowel movement in over a month. I actually miss it.
or even too much fruit. It keeps me in line and no cheating. Well I still cheat just have to spend an hour on the thrown afterwards. Then I ask was that biscuit worth it? Nah, but there is always another food item I will try and still end up on the thrown.
I also know when you up your Met it also has the same effect. I am on 2000 mg and don't have that effect unless I am cheating.

I've been on met for about a year and a half now and I can say that I still get days like that (today was one of them). It all depends on what I eat. I have to have a high fiber breakfast or it is down hill all day. What works for me is like sheaded wheat for breakfast or low carb (high fiber) bread with some pb on it. (I know the calories are there by my bum is happier otherwise ) Another thing that I have noticed is drinking milk. I am not a milk drinker (never cared for the taste) but I have found drinking a cup a day helps in this department. Lastly, pretty much what others have said. Watch what you eat, I can't do eggs or lettuce anymore. I know I can have one bowl of oatmeal on one day for breakfast but if I go too many days in a row, it's bad news.
Good luck!
