I was told by my doctor that some women with PCOS do and can suffer from sleep disorders. However, he said that with the inbalance of our hormones our bodies produce less Melatonin than say someone "normal"..so he suggested I take 3 Melatonin tabs nightly and stay away from OTC sleep aides which dont get me to REM sleep (the deepest and healing state) but rather muddle your brain and some often have delayed or timed release properties which are not advertised to the average consumer and we dont know about them and they can make you fuzzy during the work day.
Well, here I am at 1:36 in the morning because I can't sleep. The trouble is that I go long periods with little or no sleep and then I crash and could sleep a whole day. I think it's related to hormones, therefore related to PCOS. My husband gets so irritated when I stay up all night. I seem to spend my days feeling weak and exhausted but just can't sleep.
This is a good question. I notice that when I do a round of Provera, the progesterone for me anyway, helps me sleep better. I agree that hormones do play a part, it is so complex, wish I could help you out more. The Lexapro the SSRI (serotonin) that was mentioned plays a role in sleep-that I do know. I yawn more and seem to be more "on-kilter".
HTH and good luck, sleep tight tonight
I am completely opposite. I can sleep for hours and hours and have no problem. Am I the only cyster like this??
Me too. I've can sleep 10 or 11 hours if nothing wakes me up. I've always been like this. My parents used to have to wake me on Christmas morning. Now that's a sleepyhead!
In the last year or two, the only difference I've noticed is that I wake up in the early AM with night sweats for a few days before my period is due to start. Since taking Met, it's not happening quite as much. Seems like that backs up the theory that the raging hormones inhibit sleep.
