Hi...I'm new here and just wondering about ttc on clomid. I am on 1500mg of glucophage for IR and am going to be starting clomid next cycle. I have heard that the first cycle on clomid is the best time to conceive, after that, the chances decrease?! So, any advice on what might help me conceive the first round of clomid? Any and all advice would be helpful...thanks so much and good luck to everyone out there ttc!
I think your chances of conceiving on Clomid the first time are great if you O. I did not respond to the 50mg of Clomid the first time and increased it to 100mg the second and conceived that cycle.
Some things to keep in mind...
1) are you going to be monitored via an u/s to see if you O? I always had an u/s on cd 14 to see if I developed an follies. It is much easier since we were taking out the guess work.
2) are you charting your BBT? I did to help with O. I wanted to make sure I was not O'ing too early or late.
3) take the Clomid at the exact time every day!!!
Best of luck and keep us posted,

I don't know about the first cycle of clomid being the best time conceive, but I do know that not everyone responds to the first dose and some have to be bumped up to higher dosages (Sometimes several times).
Most recommend that you do not take clomid for more than six cycles, after awhile they say clomid starts to act like a contraceptive.
I conceived on my first cycle of Clomid (the guy is now 6 yrs old, his brother is 16 months younger and it's a long story! LOL!)
My best advice is to 'enjoy the company of your husband' no more often than every 48 hours from just before you are supposed to ovulate and for about 5 to 6 days after. The worst thing you can do is what I have so often heard people doing, and we were tempted to do, and that is to 'try' twice a day! You want a welcoming committee of sperm waiting for that egg when it pops out, and sperm live for about 72 hours, and it takes about 48 hours for your husband to replenish his supply. So, the oftener the worse for probability of pregnancy.
I have heard great things about met and clomid together, I hope it works for you on the first try!
OK, so everyone is talking about not conceiving until you find the right dosage etc. and that you've had to be bumped up to another dose....
What if you had to be "bumped down" to a lower dose because you responded to well? I'm afraid now after taking only 50mg this cycle that I'll need to wiat another month and take 25mg!! This is insane !! UGH
Toriee, I think that sounds really good, that you overstimulated with a 'normal' dose of Clomid. I don't know and I'm certainly not an expert, but I have heard good things about metformin and Clomid together. Are they keeping track of your folicles by ultrasound? Is that why you suspect you overstimulated? Just curious.
I know it's hard waiting, and if you have to wait, I hope the time flies! Keep me posted!
I just wanted to say thanks for the advice, and if anyone else has more to add...great! I'll be checking in every so often and I'll keep you posted! Thanks again
I found out I overstimulated because on 4DPO I had a Progesterone test of 53.8!! Not to mention I went into the doctor the morning of O because of severe pain.
I do not have u/s's to monitor my Clomid usage, etc. I know I should and I probably will if I'm not pregnant after this cycle.
I have PCOS (diagnosed 2 years ago in 2000) and have just had my day 6 Clomid tablets (2 x 50mg on days 2-6). This is my first round of clomid and I have had no side effects (either luckily or unluckily) with it.
I have 3 months trialling the Clomid (I know it doesnt always work and isnt always suitable for PCOSers) so I guess we'll have to wait and see. I haven't been asked to have any ultrasound scans to check follicles, but I have been given bloodwork forms to go for day21 Progesterone tests to be done.
My Consultant is great and I trust her - after all, she is the one that trained in this field, so I trust her judgement.
Has anyone else not had any effects from Clomid on their first cycle? Itd be interesting to find out if you had and what you had experienced, being as I didnt experience anything!!
Im currently on CD6 and my cycles have been a bit screwy lately - PCOS can do that to you. Anyhow, I think Im gonna go get an Ovulation Predictor Kit and see how I fare with that - may give me an idea lol.
OOdles of babydust, adn good luck to you all Kachina xx

"Has anyone else not had any effects from Clomid on their first cycle? Itd be interesting to find out if you had and what you had experienced, being as I didnt experience anything!!"
In my only experience with Clomid, I know I ovulated because I got pregnant. I remember feeling miserable, all bloated and crampy in the pelvic area, I even called my doctor's office because I was a little worried. I was told not to take Motrin or anything other than Tylenol and only if I really needed it. I didn't take anything, just suffered and prayed!
I don't know what it means that you have had no side effects. Everyone is different, and some people have no side effects even though they ovulate on Clomid.
In the years since my experience with Clomid, and after starting metformin, I ovulated quite regularly and always knew when I did. I never felt *that* bloated and uncomfortable again, but usually needed to take motrin once or twice during the day or two of discomfort just from ovulating.
Hi...it's me again (I posted the original post Anyways, I am on cd2 right now and am going to start clomid tomorrow!!!! It is my first time on clomid and I am ttc #1. I'll let ya'll know if I have side effects or if I ovulate! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you guys!
