Unhappy is it possible to concieve on antidepressants

hello
i was wondering if anyone out there has conceived while on anti-depressants and suffering from PCOS and the baby turned out normal.

i am slowly coming off them but i feel like i am relasping into my old ways again, negative thinking and ruminating thoughts, i cant stand them they are causing me to have tension headaches and
affect my work but i really would like to have a baby without having to use them.

any other advice out there would be greatly appreicated.

Cool

Hi there,
I personally haven't been pregnant, and I don't take anti depressants....But I do work with clients that are on antidepressants and they do become pregnant. Depending on what your taking, the doctor or psychiatrist will decide whether you should continue to take them or not. But as far as getting pregnant with PCOS, I'am not sure how they would affect it.

Hope that helps...Hope you feel better
Jenny

My personal OB told me that Zoloft was fine to take during ttc, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. Call your doctor and ask him for his view on this. If coming off the meds is making you sick, you really want to discuss this. I know that we all would like to have med-free pregnancies, but sometimes it doesn't work out. Good Luck to you! Try not to worry.

I was on effexor when I got pregnant but switched to Zoloft. Riley was premature but that had nothing to do with the anti depressents.

Good luck, it will happen.

I agonized over this issue since I started taking antidepressants, because I knew I would want to start TTC. I talked extensively about this with my psychiatrist, and he said, ultimately it was my decision. He said that current research suggests that there is a much higher risk to the pregnancy if you are depressed, than from taking A.D.'s. I tried to switch to zoloft at one point, but it didn't work for me at all. My Psychiatrist said the only reason zoloft is recommended is because there is just more research. So I decided to go back on the effexor.

I know first-hand how depression affects a baby because my own Mom had a major breakdown a few days after I was born, and it lasted for years. The person I knew as my Mom when I was a child is not the person I know now. She was like a ghost. I also believe it has affected our relationship, and the fact that we are not very close. She simply wasn't there for me. That has definitely affected my decision, and made me decide that I had to be as healthy, mentally, for my baby as I could be. But as I said, this was an agonizing decision. I asked my RE her opinion, and she said she felt that the effexor, and other SSRI's were safe, aand again, the benefits outweigh the risk. There is no evidence that they affect the ability to conceive. We have the PCOS for that!

I am on Paxil for Panic Attacks and my Dr. said they are OK to take while TTC and during pg. I know it is better to take the meds while pg than it would be to have a PA. Mine are severe.
