Default is it possible to be hypothyroid one day and not the next?

is it possible to be hypothyroid one day and not the next?

i was dx'ed a long time ago, right around the time i was dx'ed with PCOS. i moved away, and the doctor in the new town told me that i wasn't hypo anymore, and to stop taking my synthroid. but then again, this is also the dude who told me that i didn't have PCOS either!

my new dr here said that's a load of crap and did tests last week for me to check it (and a million other things) out.

has this happened to anyone else?

From all that I have read, and know, you do not miraculously heal from Hypothyroidism. Not possible. Your meds should always be consistent, for the rest of your life. That doctor was an idiot. Just because after taking the meds your levels appear to be normal (thus the reason for taking them in the first place) does not mean that they would be normal without the meds. However, I recently met a woman who says she has the rare condition of a thyroid that "rapidly misfires". She said sometimes she will have hyper, sometimes hypo. She has to be treated for both and says she can tell when she is Hypo again because of the energy levels and weight gain.
Good Luck, April

If you're hypo...you stay hypo...

But if you have hashimoto's....you can swing from hypo to hyper to euthyroid....

Have your thyroid antibodies tested to see if you've got hashi's. Lots of us have autoimmune problems...

Hello,
For many years my blood tests were normal/hypo/normal/hypo !!
I never had 2 results the same. In the end I had to have a total thyroidectomy, due to a "Failing Thyroid" that grew larger and larger to try to compensate in producing the correct amount of hormone.
So yes, blood levels/tests can fluctuate.

Ditto on the hashi's. Your body can be doing the typical hashi flare-ups where it overproduces one minute and underproduces the next, and inbetween you appear euthyroid (normal). The way most good doctors treat this is with a suppression dose of thyroid meds that takes the pressure off the thyroid and hopefully makes the antibodies go down and whatnot.

Find a new dr - that one's not worth his salt...

thanks for the replies, ladies!

i'm still waiting for my test results....maybe i should call my dr.'s office now.

anyway, the doctor who told me that i was "no longer" hypo, is long gone, i saw him maybe twice, and my new dr is AMAZING.

i will bring up the hashimoto's to him. i will be sure to take note of the terminology, since i had never heard of euthyroid. my endocrinologist had mentioned it (hashimoto's) before, but then again i haven't seen him in about three years

thanks again for the info!
