My Mood: Points: 1,717.53 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,717.53 | Possible M/C -- D & C? I am sort of in a quandary. I went in for a fetal ultrasound (vaginal) when I was approximately 4 weeks after O (six weeks gestation), and the doctor couldn't find a heartbeat. The fetus was measuring the right age, though, so she told me to come back in a week. I had to wait longer because they didn't have a slot for me a week later (priority goes to transfers).
So finally 10 days later I went in, seeing one of the other doctors in the practice, the one I don't like at all, and he said that even though there was now a heartbeat, it was really weak and slow (about half the rate it should have been -- 65 bpm vs. 120 bpm). He told me that there wasn't much chance that the pregnancy was viable, that usually in cases like mine there was a genetic abnormality preventing it from growing. So he told me to schedule a D & C for the following week. And it's with him, not my regular doctor because she is only in the location I go to a couple of days a week. He said they'd check again for a heartbeat, first, to make sure that the fetus/baby really didn't make it, and if there's no heartbeat, they'd go ahead with the D & C.
Again, they didn't have an opening for a week, so I'm going on Tuesday. I don't want to believe that they won't find a heartbeat, and really, I don't want the D & C with this guy. I don't like him and I don't feel comfortable, but I also don't know if I could wait a lot longer. What do you all think? Should I postpone the D & C? Ask that they do just the u/s? Wait and see if maybe there is a heartbeat? I've had occasional light cramping but no other m/c symptoms -- however my pregnancy symptoms seem less, particularly the m/s.

My Mood: Points: 10,100.97 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 10,100.97 | I am so sorry for your loss. I just had a D&E on Friday. it was my 2nd one. I think you really need to feel comfortable with not only the decision but who is doing the D&E. The first time around I asked for another U/S prior to scheduling the D&E you can also ask for blook work HCG/beta & prog. to be tested to see if they are both going down.
You could also opt for a natural M/C it take longer but its an option & he should be talking to you about that. I woulld schedule an apointment with the doctor you like to get a second opinion.
I am in the same situation as you 1 dr. I LOVE, all the nurse pract. LOVE..HATE HATE HATE the other dr. & the dr. I hate did my D&E it really wasn't too bad ..
Feel free to PM me if you need to know details of what to expect.
I am so sorry for your loss..its so hard & I wish the dr. were better at handling this to make it easier.

I agree that you should feel ready for that decision, whether to use a d&c or medical assistance or try and wait for your body to do the work. I certainly think you should have a doctor who is either neutral (new to you, you don't know well) or one you feel comfortable with. There are too many fish in the sea to have to tolerate the one you specifically have negative feelings about, especially when you are already hurting in other ways.
Hang in there, sweetie!

My Mood: Points: 3,469.04 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 3,469.04 | I'm really sorry for you. If you don't feel comfortable with the d&c yet there is no reason for you have it done. In your situation I know I would not have it done. Personally I would wait and see if the baby still has a heartbeat, and then I would wait and see if it passed on it's own. I had a miscarriage last summer and am very glad it was naturally passed and not a d&c. Anyway I don't see any reason to interfere when you don't even know if nature is going to take its course and you'll always live with the what if questions.

My Mood: Points: 1,717.53 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,717.53 | Well, I went ahead with the D & C. I know I didn't have to have it done, but when I saw the u/s, there was no heartbeat and the fetus looked like it had started to break down already. I was kinda grossed out, I guess. I do think I may look for a new RE's office, though, because this one just really seemed to be hard to deal with in many ways. But they are the only ones on my insurance, I think.
