I had an episode of bright red rectal bleeding today during a bowel movement. This has never happened to me before, so I'm obvioulsy wondering if it could be related to Met and the typical g/i s/e? Has this happened to any of you? About a half an hour later, I had another movement, but there wasn't a single trace of blood, either on the tp, or the stool. I think I have hemrhoids because of all the weird bowel issues associated w/Met. Would something like preparation-H help?
Prior to this, I've been experiencing a discomfort in the left side of my pelvic area for a few weeks now. I have an u/s scheduled for Tuesday. I figured the pain was coming from my uterus. It is more then what ovulation would feel like, it has come and gone daily for a few weeks now. At times it is quite painful, and it burns, and I've even felt movement, like it could be a cyst. I felt it during bd with my husband earlier this week as well, so I know there has to be something there. Today was CD22 for me as well.
Thanks for any help!

Hi. I am not sure about the pain, but I have some thoughts on the bleeding. It is sometimes normal (sorry if tmi) for larger bowel movements to cause some bleeding sometimes as it may tear the skin a little. Also if a hemorrhoid is there bowel movements aggrivate it and that is why it bleeds. I had one once and after a while it seemed to clear up on its own. I never used cream or anything. I figured I had it because I stood a lot at work at the time, one reason for getting them. The muscles in that area get strained and that causes it. Some medications can cause bleeding in the gi tract but I haven't heard of metformin doing so. Usually bright red blood doesn't indicate a stomach problem or upper gi tract problem because it would be dried blood and darker usually by the time it made it out of your system, but it could indicate a lower gi problem. Since it only happened once, I wouldn't worry too much, but since you have pain associated with it, it is a good idea to check it out and mention to the doctor. I hope it turns out ok.
Silentnomore - thank you very much. So far it's only happened that one time. I had my u/s today (scheduled before the bleeding episode) and part way through, the tech asked me how my bowel movements have been going. I'm afraid now that they found something, otherwise why ask about my movements? I'll know more Friday hopefully. On the good side, they didn't have me rush myself to the ER, so it can't be anything that terrible..

Oh I'm sorry, I forgot to update. I got my results back and all was normal! Thank goodness. I guess that question about my bowels was routine?! The results were all clear, and normal, thank goodness. Boy was I worried...
I haven't had any other episode of bleeding like that, I've been trying to stay as regular as possible to keep the hemmrhoids at bay, and so far so good.
AF is due by tomorrow (or a +hpt!?), so we'll see what happens.
Thank you for your support!
