Default possible move to OZ - public funding IVF in oz

HI

I was hoping somebody maybe able to help me. My dh and I are currently talking about moving to Oz for a while and im wanting to know if we will be able to continue with fertility treatment over there and what the options are. I was able to find info about the Medicare card and I know that as a kiwi citizen we are eligible to apply for this once we arrive.

I have a few question regarding seeking fertility treatment while over there.

1. So far i have only find Private clinic on the web and just wondering if there are any fertility clinics that are totally public funding?

2. Any recommendations of drs and clinic around the sydney area?

Thanks for you help
Rebecca

I just rung my local hospital (a teaching one) and they said they dont do public IVF...I guess though you can go and see a Gyn there and maybe ask for fertility treatments through them....

I was lucky as my RE (private) cost about $100 and I got so much back through medicare, meds were cheap and he was happy for me to try a few rounds before doing further treatment.......

Now with saying they dont do it, I am in NSW, so other states *may* do it!

Wishing you all the bes!

Thanks for your reply and making the phone call greatly appreciated. I might just have to save a bit more money before i leave NZ to pay for treatment.

NO worries, was happy to help out a fellow cyster..just wished it was better news

As I said my RE first consult cost $100, medicare gives back around $60-70 of that...Clomid is $40-$50 full price and around $5-10 if on a health care card...this is roughly what I can remember from 3yrs ago.....because my I had seen my RE previously about my pcos, he was happy to describe clomid and try that first for around 6 rounds....
