Default Is it possible to purchase water pills over the counter?

I can tell I'm really holding fluid. I am drinking enough water but for some reason it makes it worse the more I drink it.

I was just wondering if it's possible to purchase them over the counter or if it's something the Dr needs to give you?

I think I've seen them in the natural foods section of our local grocery store... but, I couldn't say for sure. That might be a good place to look first though.

Midol is good as a last resource. You cannot take them constantly, but they are supposed to reduce fluid retention.

Make sure you're eating enough protein, and cut back on salt intake...those are good healthy ways to reduce bloating/useless-water-retention. Be careful with diuretics; they can leave you dehydrated and may not solve the bloat problem.

(Water escapes into feet, tissues, useless areas if there's not enough pressure pull to keep it in the blood vessels--and moving towards kidneys. Protein helps keep it in the vessels, as does having a healthy blood pressure)

I would talk to your doc before trying any otc's. They might not mix well with any meds you're already on. (And spiro/aldactone is already a diurectic).

I retain fluids horribly, and otc's didn't cut it for me. My doc gave me an Rx one that is FABULOUS. (I hate to gush about a 'drug', but this one is fab. The bloat is gone overnight, and I can bend my fingers again.)

((HOLLAND)) Lexapro did that to me, just my experience though, I didn't eat salt and drank a lot of water.
There's something called Diazide, an Rx, that works well, so I hear, not sure if that's the one Kat is talking about.

I found some otc water pills in the diet pill section of my local drug store. I take them when I have my period because I get so bloated and it really helps. I can't think of the name right now (Diurex?) but both the box and the pills are blue.

Have a nice day!

Thanks you guys!!!

I never thought about the Lexapro doing this to me. Now that I think back that's when this all started. I will mention it to the DR when I go back next month.

Thanks again!!!
