Possible thin cyster - need advice! Hi all - I am a 29 year old woman and have been through a nightmare of medical tests/problems over the past 6 months and right now I strongly suspect PCOS. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts/advice you have.
I initially saw a GP for irregular periods. My periods had been more or less regular up until then, but often late. But around the time I was 26, they started getting really weird - nothing for 2 months and then a bunch of spotting all month. It got to the point where I couldn't predict them at all, and would just wear a pad all the time - VERY sexy. Anyway, I got an ultrasound done, and my doctor told me I had a few cysts on my right ovary. She said this was normal, but they were going to "keep their eye on it". I went back for two more - the next one revealed a bunch of cysts on my left ovary, and the one after that a few more on my right ovary. The doctor said PCOS, but I didn't care enough to even look into it. All I cared about was cancer, and when they assured me there was no cancer, I just cancelled the rest of my appointments. I had no idea why they wanted to just watch these "normal" cysts.
I was then fitted with an IUD for birth control because I am a little afraid of the BC pill, and my period continued to be irregular, but only slightly so. Until 6 months ago, when it stopped completely. I also developed this shooting pain on my right side for about 2 weeks a month, and gained about 10 pounds and really sore breasts. I went to a different doctor (I had moved) who checked my charts, noticed the history of cysts, and booked me for an ultrasound. The ultrasound revealed...nothing. No cysts. So she tested my blood for ovulation and thyroid. Tests revealed normal thyroid but no ovulation. It's not premature menopause or pregnancy either. I asked about PCOS and she said "but there are no cysts anymore, so it's not that...also, PCOS women tend to gain weight very rapidly".
I asked to be referred to a gynecologist, because I know that cysts are not always present in PCOS. I am concerned about the fact that I am not ovulating. |
