Hi! I just moved to Melbourne from the US about two months ago, so I am totally lost on doctors. My spouse visa hasn't gone through yet, so I can't get medicare just yet. (Out of pocket SUCKS!) I live in the Doncaster area. About how far away are Wickhan Terrace and Carindale from me? I didn't even have a decent OBGYN in the States to go to, so I'd like to find someone good over here. (My PCP in the States diagnosed me with PCOS and was helping me until I moved.) If any of you also know a really good PCP in the area, please let me know.
One last thing...is it weird for any of you to go to a male OBGYN? I've always had this thing about women being better suited for treating women's problems, but I'm sure I'm totally off base. I'm willing to get out of my shell and try someone if they're good, especially since I haven't found a good woman OBGYN yet. So please...tell me more about this Dr. Lingard because I am very interested.
Thanks!

Dr David Lingard - just briliant - he is an gyn/ob doctor who also does infertility treatment like insems, ivf etc. He is truly a caring man and also so very PCOS understanding! He is based at Wickham Terrace but also goes to Carindale and i think he still goes to Everton Park as well.
Dr Winnifred Lee - endo - she is also great and works in conjunction with many of the QFG doctors. She is also an obstetric physician so she is looking after all the other hormonal things to do with pregnancy. She is at Wickham Terrace and Mater Medical Centre.
I Live in Ballarat which is near Melbourne and i too have had multiple drs that weren't much good. I now see Russell Dalton he runs ballarat ivf and he is a very good doctor. He is very up front with you and to the point which i love but if you like to be sugar coated try someone else!!!

This is a little off-topic but if you are interested in a really good dietitician then Desi Laskaris at Woolloongabba is excellent.
She knows lots about PCOS and a PCOS diet and has an exercise physiologist working with her and a doctor who specialising in expert conditions like PCOS.
She is lovely and i am finally starting to lose weight with somebody!!

I've just recently discovered Dr Jo Marjason at the Top of the Mall medical centre in George Street, Brisbane City.
After 32 years of being told I'm fat and lazy, she took one look at me and said "I think we've got a case of PCOS here." She asked me to keep a food/exercise diary while she sent off my blood tests, and when I went back, said to me "You eat very well and you're more than active - so let's look at those blood tests and I'll bet we've got PCOS." I sat there and cried in her office because she was the first to believe me when I said there was something wrong!
And already in the 5 weeks since that first visit, I'm losing weight, I feel great and I'm not scared anymore!
Just adding to the contacts list, htp. QLD:
I think one of the Brissy cysters may have already mentioned Dr David Molloy from QFG, here is a link to his website, including PCOS info. http://www.gynaecologymolloy.com/qfg.html
Dr Cabot known for her diet books such as Syndrome X & Liver Cleansing.
Her website has linked to other Doctors & Naturopaths. http://www.whas.com.au
Dr John Eden, Royal Hospital for Women in Randwick, also offices in Hurstville phone:95467868 (Dr Eden recently published a new pcos book)
If you can recommend a Doctor/Therapist/Clinic etc, anywhere in Australia please post if you can.

to all WA cysters having difficulty finding a dr with special interests in womens health . Dr Noel Partridge was recommended to me by the Womens Advisory Bureau(created by Sandra Cabot "liver cleansing diet") I suspected I had hormonal problems but none of the dr I had visited this year were able to dx me even though andregen index was way out. What threw them is the fact I have concieved easily and my cycles are very regular.Dr Partridge ordered the right tests a nd at last dx.My progesterone levels are extremely low so I have natural progesterone lozenges at night and 1000mg metformin for insuli n resistence. Found him to be extremely switched on to pcos. He has a practice in Mt Lawley and Stirling Lakes. Takes a few weeks to get an appointment. He told me he tries to treat the cause of the problem not just treat the symptoms, in my case---abdominal obesity,hirsutism,acne/oily skin, skin tags and quite recently dramatic thinning of the hair on my head.Ive got my fingers crossed1
Also, I currently see Dr Ellen Campion in Maroubra (Sydney) who is very good. I have seen several doctors in Melbourne who didn't pick up my symptoms and should have, but let's not go there...

This might seem strange me posting an Australian doctor that I've seen since I am in England.... but I am an Aussie and this doctor is the one I saw when I came home for a holiday last year.... She helped me understand PCOS better than any doctors from the UK ever did.
DR David Carey, endocrinologist, metabolic medicine specialist, Wesley Hospital,Brisbane.
Hi everyone,
This year I've been going to Dr David Carey, who is an endocrinologist, gp and professor of human movement studies specialising in weight management, metabolic medicine and diabetes. A few people at work had been seeing him to tackle their weight and when I saw he was also an endo I decided to give him a try. What I like about him is that he is the first endo I've seen who has really actively tried to help me lose weight (that's my goal...not trying for babies yet). So far I've lost nearly 10kg. He's got a great manner and is very encouraging.
I'd definitely recommend him.
Cheers,
Miranda

First let me say how fantastic it is that a forum/ support group like this exists! You're all magnificent!
My doctor is Dr Warren De Ambrosis of the Queensland Fertility Group. He works from Wickham Tce, Brisbane. He is a brilliant doctor and has the uncanny ability to make you feel comfortable no matter what. In my opinion, he is as good as they get.
