I've recently seen Dr Alison Garvin at North West Private (Brisbane) for the first time. She's very approachable and thorough, and I felt very comfortable with her.

Default Melbourne South East

I was referred to Dr Peter Young, an ob/gyn who has a clinic 4 days a week in Noble Park & one on Wednesdays at Berwick.

All I can say is WOW!! He is such a sweet guy...lovely beside manner, very patient & understanding...great about helping you be informed & makes sure you're well monitored. He got me to get a lot of tests done which my original gyno never did...well worth doing, I feel as hubby & I are TTC. For once I actually feel like I KNOW what's going on with my body. Oh, & he has wonderfully supportive nursing staff also.

I have always hated going to male gynos but Peter is great. I have a friend who is a midwife & she's heard great things about him from an obstetrician point of view, also.

His details are:
1324 Heatherton Rd, Noble Park
50 Clyde Rd, Berwick
Ph 9706 9320

Default Caring, brisbane endo?

Hi fellow cysters,

I'm trying to find a good pcos DR in Brisbane. For those who have been to see DR's at the QLD Fertility Centre on Wickam Terrace, can you tell me if I can be reffered to see those DR's for my pcos if I am not needing treatment for fertility? Feel a bit strange going to a fertility centre....like they will wander why I am there wasting their valuable time, lol.

Has anyone else found any other great endo's in Brisbane? I'm finding it very hard to cope wih my pcos symptoms and would like to see a specialist to get back on track after years of going on and off different meds (premarin, androcur, metformin etc). I have not been on any meds for a year and my symptoms have gotten worse. I am too ashamed of my symptoms to see a male DR. so would love for recomendations for a really good female endocrinologist.

Kind regards,

Callie.

Callie, have you got a good GP to kick start you? I go to Dr Joanne Marjason in the city (Top of the Mall Medical Centre, George Street) and she's fantastic. I don't go to an endo yet, but I know when the time comes she'll send me to a good one.

Hi Callie

I would recommend Dr Keeping he's a ob/gyn and i would recommend Dr Winnifred Lee she's a endo. They suppose to be one of the best in brisbane.
Only problem is that they're private so i guess that depends on if you've got private health insurances. Also both can take sometime to get into. Hey have you seen the population of pregnant woman out there. They've got to use ob/gyn lol. Dr Winnifred can be a little exy.
Good Luck with the search

Hi Callie

I have been going to Dr Winnifred Lee for seven years. She is an endocrinologist primarily but also calls herself an obstetric endo as well. She IS expensive but everyone you could talk to would say she is brilliant. Please go to her she is well worth the money - just be willing to wait for an appointment!

Thumbs up Fantastic Gyno I have ever come across

I had an appointment on Saturday with a Fantastic Gyno and yes thats right ladies he works Saturday. My friend recommended him after she had to have one of her ovaries out (my friend used to work with gyno's). She said he works late Thursday nights and even has appointments on a Saturday cause he understands that people need to work and Monday to Friday doesn't just suit everyone.

I will give you all a brief thing on what this doctor is like.

Over xmas last year he was out doing his xmas shopping and had a call from the hospital that one of his patients had just gone into labour. The patient was a first time mum. He left his shopping trolley and went straight to the hospital and stayed with her right up until he delivered the ladies baby. He then dropped in on her a couple of times that night also to make sure she was right.

From stories I have heard this doctor is not in it for the money he is all about his patients.

I was in with him for 1hr and 20 mins how many specialist do you know that do that? None that I have come across anyways. He did more for me in that time than any doctor has done for me in nearly 5 years. He did an transvaginal ultrasound just to make sure my diagnosis from 5 years ago was correct. He also took a sample from my uterus wall to make sure that I did not have any abnormal cells as he said to me some women with PCOS who don't have a regular AF can get cancer or have abnormal cells that may stop them from getting pregnant and that it wasn't good for me to only have a period once or twice a year or every other year either. The good thing about him is that he has all this equipment in his office you don't need to get a form filled out and troddle off to somewhere else. He also has written out a pathology form for a full blood workup including an oral glucose test which so far no one has done for me.

I could go on all day about how good he is but I won't. But I will tell you for my appointment, the scan, and the pathology sample he took it cost me $150 and I am astounded.

Thanks for posting that Roobie. They sound just like my gp - interesting though that they are naturopathic doctors and can prescribe natural hormones. I guess that means it's just in Queensland that you can only get them prescribed by a gp/specialist etc.... Personally I feel this is the only way to go to 'heal' PCOS, instead of just spot treating us. Takes a while, but it's nice to know that we can be balanced out naturally (i.e. those of us that can't be balanced out by weight loss, either because we can't lose weight or because at a normal or low weight we've still got screwed up hormones).
