My F/S is Dr. Hussein Elzeiny through Melbourne IVF! He is great and a good listener and lets me ask as many questions as I want and dosent think I am an idiot!
I've been seeing a herbalist in Red Hill, Brisbane with good results. Her name is Katherine Thomas and she specialises in PCOS. I met her at a seminar on PCOS that she was presenting. At the moment I'm taking a gross tasting herbal mix and some tablets to balance my blood sugars which seems to be working a treat. I think she does the PCOS talks regularly too which I would recommend as I learnt heaps about diet advice for PCOS from her.
Just wondering if anyone has any dealings with CabooltureIVF?
The Dr. there are Dr Jame Moir,Dr Petra Ladwig, & Dr Jeff Tarr?
I will add, I was using Dr Stephen Baines from Wesley Monash - at Aunchenflower, he was a great doctor, I went through IVF/ICSI with him. Am now looking at moving closer to home, so I am wondering if anyone has any feedback?
Hi ladies,
After seeing a herbalist/acupunturist in Sydney I got pregnant after only 2 weeks treatment, and I have PCOS and Endometriosis. It may also be because of my healthy lifestyle as well which helped. I probably would have got pregnant without help but because I am 35 I didn't want to take any chances so I found this wonderful lady.
Her website is xxxxxxxxxxx for anyone interested and my partner who keeps me so healthy is a "health and fitness consultant", probably the best around but I'm a bit biased. If you want his details feel free to email me at xxxxxxxxxxxxx and I will give you his info.
Good luck ladies !!!
I went to see Lily for about 6 months with no positive results (a few negatives from a carelessly prescribed chinese branded weight loss formula IMHO) and my impression was that she was far more interested in the $$ and big noting herself than anything else. I always walked out $300 - $400 lighter, which is a LOT of money for a regular person (not the many celebrities she likes to advertise that she had treated). This is just my experience and I may be wrong, but I thought I should share it with you anyway so that the comments are balanced.
Hi,
Im really new to this site and havent quite got the gist of how it works properly yet so im probably doing this wrong!!
I havent really seen many west australian people on to see whether there is many doctors around geraldton or perth that actually take you seriously enough to care but please if there is, let me know!
otherwise it would lovely to actually talk to others with the same conditions as me.
PCOS since 2001-2002.. insulin resistance, hirsuitism (linked with PCOS) etc etc..
Would love to hear from anyone!
Hello, welcome to SoulCysters. I am afraid I haven't got any useful information for you about Health Care Professionals in WA as I am from Sydney, but I have definitely seen a few cysters from Perth around here and I think they have mentioned Drs and Herbalists who have helped them. Maybe you could do a search, cos I've no idea where I read this. On the 2nd bar at the top there is "Search" and a little down arrow next to it - just click on that and put Perth or WA or something in there. Best of luck!!
Not really. I saw an Endocrinologist about 3 years ago, hoping for some useful information, but I don't think she knew much about PCOS ... in fact she seemed to know less than I did - she said a few things which were quite incorrect, but very basic. I am a trained nurse, naturopath and nutritionist and I had done a lot of research on it, but still ... if you pay someone over $100/hr it would be nice to learn something new and not get incorrect information. Sorry enough babbling. I've been trying to control it through diet, exercise, herbs and nutritional supplementation. I tried Met when I was first diagnosed (though I'd suspected I had it for some time) but had quite a bad reaction to it and felt too ill to continue. I also started putting on weight. I have found this forum to be one of the best sources of information out there, actually. There is so much you can learn from searching and reading through the threads. I hope you find it as useful as I have.
Hey belrose, I saw you take raspberry leaf tea, I just wanted to ask is it true you shouldn't take it in early and late pregnancy as it could cause miscarriage or bring on premature labour? I have bought some myself but I am waiting to see if af arrives this cycle before I consider taking it, just in case!

I saw an endocrinologist acouple of years ago when i was first diagnosed for a few years.. and everytime i went and saw her all she did was check my blood pressure, my height, my weight and talk to me about where i was at with my depression.. we drove near on 500kms n paid out alot just to do the same that i can achieve by seeing a good for nothing doctor here who sais my ten minutes is up and to book another appt if i want to talk about it more. So yeah, i know you frustrations! im on Diabex XR because i kept having reactions to the Metformin been on n off it for years n feel like it does absolutely nothing! So trying out the new slow releasing one - still in my eyes does nothing :S considering seeing a naturopath but im not sure.. everything just seems to get more n more costly the more i try! Seems stupid you pay out so much money and get nothing in return hey..
I used to recommend that my patients took 1200mg tablets 3 x day for 3 months before trying to conceive, then drop down to 400mg 3 x day from when they get a BFP to the end of the first trimester, 800 mg 3 x day during the 2nd trimester and back up to 1200 mg during the last trimester. In low doses RRL actually helps to prevent miscarriages. It could well have an adverse effect if the wrong dosage is taken though as it tones the uterus, making it stronger. This makes for a much easier delivery. There have been a couple of studies done in Australia with positive results (although from my perspective, not very well prescribed dosage schedules) .
The first study is a retrospective observational study of 108 mothers over a 6 month period (Jan-July 1998). Of this group, 57 women (52.8%) consumed raspberry leaf products (tea or tablets) during their pregnancy and 51 women (47.2%) did not (being the control group). Most of the women taking raspberry leaf started doing so at some stage between 28 and 34 weeks of the pregnancy, but a few started as early as 8 weeks and others as late as 39 weeks. The study could not identify any side effects from taking raspberry leaf and it indicated that the herb may help prevent women having a premature or overdue baby and may be less likely to need an artificial rupture of their membranes (breaking the waters by the caregiver). They were also less likely to require a caesarean section, forceps or vacuum birth than the women in the control group. (Parsons 1999)
The second study was a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial of 192 first time mothers (average age 28.5 years) who had their babies between May 1999 and February 2000. One group of women took raspberry leaf tablets (1, 200mg twice per day) from 32 weeks of their pregnancy until labour started and the control group took a placebo. There were no identified side effects for either mother or baby, but contrary to popular belief, it did not shorten the 1st stage of labour. The only clinically significant findings were a shortening of the 2nd stage of labour (by about 10 minutes), a lower rate of forceps deliveries (19.3% vs. 30.4%) and less chance of Caesarean (62.4% vs. 50.6%) for the women who took raspberry leaf. Both groups of women experienced similar occurrences of nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation. (Simpson et al. 2001) http://www.pregnancy.com.au/raspberry_leaf.htm
I would expect that if the raspberry leaf were taken as I used to recommend then it would reduce or at least make the 1st stage less painful. Unfortunately, every woman is unique, and every birth is unique. No woman will have the same birth experience twice, so a study using such a limited number of subjects is not able to say much.
But that's my two penny-worth anyway... Hope it helps.
Oh and no, I've not heard of it inducing premature labour, either. Actually I think those two studies I mentioned concluded it was completely safe after 28 weeks.
