Dr Keith McKlaverty at Warner Family Medical Practice in North Brisbane is who I see now. He's a GP but he has several PCOS patients and likes to keep himself informed on treatments and news with the condition to help us. He's very nice, very chatty, lets me make my own treatment schedule and saw me through my last pregnancy.
Warner Family Medical Practice, Cr of Samsonvale and Old North Road (where Maccas is), Warner, 07 3882 324.

Hi everyone. I'm another newbie on here. I was diagnosed in 2002. The specialist in Ipswich didn't seem to give a damn and basically told me to come back when i had lost weight and wanted to try for a baby (PM me if you want his details).
Hubby and I have been TTC for 7 months now with no luck. I finally found a GP who was willing to help me, who did blood tests and a pelvic uss. Essentially all came back normal, all except for my uterine lining being 6 mm (a little thin), and my Oestrogen was low. All my other PCOS hormones came back normal. I have been on metformin and Pre-natal Vitamins for over a year now. My periods are irregular but it you average them out over the year I average one per month. I am also obese. Hubby has not been tested for infertility yet. We both don't drink or smoke.
I live in Toowoomba QLD, so there is not much choice of ob/gyns. But the one that specializes in PCOS is Dr. John Esler. He is expensive and his appointments seem rushed, but he knows what he is talking about thats for sure. I saw him over a year ago for PCOS, and he told me to come back when I am ready to discuss having a baby, and put me on the metformin to start off with.
Hi There Bel, Welcome. Sounds like your Dr isn't being a whole heap of help to you which is a shame. I live in Sydney and haven't found anyone worth seeing either, although I have heard good things about Dr John Eden over at the Royal Hospital for Women. I just haven't gotten my act together and gone to see him.
It really ticks me off when Drs/Endos tell women to go away until they are ready to TTC ... PCOS is a WHOLE BODY SYNDROME which if untreated greatly increases risk factors for heart disease, stroke and diabetes ... all serious illnesses which increase mortality. Any Dr who doesn't appreciate this, is not worth you wasting your time going to see.
Of course losing weight is going to help, a lot, but it's not an easy task with PCOS. The most important thing to do is get the insulin resistance under control.

Dr Neil Wallman who will be moving from the Central Coast of NSW up to QLD has been fantastic. Very thorough. He performed a laparoscopy, D&C with me and got me started on Provera.

Just wanted to let you know about the doctor I have found. After about 15 years of asking many doctors to help me. Even asking my own GP to test my hormone levels, she told me that hormone tests are only done if you are menopausal.
I finally found one who listened and took the time to test me. He's the one who diagnosed me with PCOS.
His name is David Richardson from Royston Clinic in Asquith (NSW) he is a GP who specialises in hormone treatment.
Ladies.........as the "GP" tends to be the gatekeeper of all things PCOS, can someone please provide me any names of good GP's in Sydney Northern Beaches area.
This is a little off topic, but I've just found someone selling D Chiro Inositol (DCI) in Australia. The website is: http://www.pcosinfo.wordpress.com/tr...ts/natural/DCI and I ordered some a couple of weeks ago. It's a LOT cheaper than the guys selling it in America, and it comes as a powder (which tastes sweet!!) so it's not yet another pill to take.
I've been taking it for a week now and have a lot more energy, pains in my right ovary which I'm hoping is ovulation pain, and I've lost a kilo this week.
There are a few threads on here about DCI, if you don't know anything about it. This is one: DCI - D-Chiro-Inositol and WOW!!! but there are plenty more if you search.
Hi,
Im really new to this site and havent quite got the gist of how it works properly yet so im probably doing this wrong!!
I havent really seen many west australian people on to see whether there is many doctors around geraldton or perth that actually take you seriously enough to care but please if there is, let me know!
otherwise it would lovely to actually talk to others with the same conditions as me.
PCOS since 2001-2002.. insulin resistance, hirsuitism (linked with PCOS) etc etc..
Would love to hear from anyone!
hey im new too, lol ive just moved to geraldton and havent yet been to see a dr. just wondering if u may have found one or if any one else has one to reccomend
DR TANIA ASH- Wellness Medical Clinic- St Kilda, Melbourne
She does Intergrated* Medicine focusing on Women's Health (pcos)
*she is a qualified MD plus Qualified Naturopath. Whilst she is able to prescribe medication she is more inclined to prescribe quality herbal supplements as well as diet, lifestyle recommendations.
She is familiar with Bio Identical progesterone. Metagenics and Bio cuetical products which are an comparable/alternative to many traditionlly prescribed PCOS meds. They are only available through prescription from a DR or naturopath.(pharmacutical companies Know they work but don't make money from them)hence this regulation.
She is not cheap,But she is thorough Some but not all testing she does is covered by medicare.
She is more inclined to test hormones through saliva than rely on bloodwork alone. She helped me get off the medication side effect merrygoround and offered more than a bandaid solution to my hormone/PCOS
Gee that's really good Pollyanna, she sounds awesome. Salivary hormone testing is far more accurate than blood levels - she does know her stuff.
