Ofter reading all the s/e postings, I was reluctant to try met. But at the suggestion of my doc, I've been on it for almost 3 months now and the ONLY time I've had side effects is the day I cheated and had 2 doughnuts and then I had gas and soft stool like everyone has described in humourus detail! At my last appt, I mentioned lack of side effects to my doc. She said it's because I eat healthy/reduced carb food. She said the people running to the bathroom are eating too many carbs: sugars or starches. I dont eat sugars or starchy foods so that makes sense.

I take met with a morning smoothie (yogurt, frozen fruit, OJ, & no sweeteners at all). Mid morning snack of yogurt with 1/4 c muslix (no sugar added). Second met with lunch is cottage cheese, sandwich with low carb bread and deli meat. Mid afternoon snack of apple with no sugar added peanut butter. Dinner doesnt include carby carb (potatoes, rice, bread, noodles, etc). I make dinners consisting of protein with lots of veggies and maybe some dried beans for good fiber (see South Beach Diet recipes). I allow myself snack bars and deserts but only if they are very natural granola styles or low carb bars.

We should all be reducing our carb/sugar intake compared to the typical high carb meals I know most of us were/are accustomed to eating. Try it for several days or a couple weeks and see for yourself, Fewer carbs will help the met do it's job more efficiently. Fewer carbs will reduce side effects... Just say 'no, thank you' to the carbs.

Default Support Group Olympia, Washington

Hi all, I am getting so imformed with reading all the posts. Just wondering if there is anyone here in the Olympia, Washington area that might want to meet up and get to know each other and be a support group. My husband also got started on Metform last week due to diabetees. So I am sorta learning the side effects from him. Definately gas and tired and weak.

Hello
I have been on Met for 1.5 weeks and I started off with 500mg/ day and now am up to 1000mg working up to 1500mg. It was smooth sailing at first, but Sat morning was not good, and sent me running for the bathroom. I had a half of a drink fri night and I never drink so I think that may have brought it on, but now I know that I cannot tolerate any alcohol while on it. But its nice to see that there are others out there dealing with the same problem.

Yes Rosie, I agree i know that days that i cheat i usually have bad symptoms.....but then again it seems to slow down once i've been on it awhile so if i cheat its not that bad...like yesterday i cheated w/ pizza and a bagel w/ cream cheese earlier in the day ...and i knew i was going to pay...but not by an upset stomach. Its all about compromising and finding out what best works for you....I think i will try the SR tabs....im still taking the 1000mg a day. so anyway i got a few things to work out.
good luck ladies!

Testimonial:
In a moment of weakness, I made pancakes on Saturday morning. Husband was getting over a bad cold and needed some comfort food. We had some very ripe bananas to eat and banana pancakes were the only thing I could think of. I was in a hurry and didnt have a healthier (higher fiber, lower sugar/carb) recipe handy so I just used a normal pancake recipe (white flour, sugar, etc.) and used regular syrup.

BIG MISTAKE!

2:30 AM was no fun.

I'll be restocking my low-carb pancake mix and sugar free syrup this weekend. (Big Train brand mixes are excellent).

Hi guys, I have been reading your posts and was wondering a couple things.
I am struggling with about 80 bls and I'll lose 10 and gain it right back. I try met and when I do it gives me heartburn type stomach issues not so much the other end. It hurts my esophagus but nothing else. It makes my chest feel tight, weird I know but I WANT to take it. I can't take any BCP's because of a blood thinning problem and I know they would help with my acne which is bad too. Anyway, I'm trying to lose this weight and any suggestions on the met would help!
Thanks, I'll be back tomorrow.
Jeanice

Default Heart burn and gaining weight while on Met

Hi Ladies, I'm asking this question for a friend. She has BAD heart burn and
must take all that heart burn medicine. She has also talked about gaining
weight while on Met. So, she has stop taking Met. But, it must be said, she
has not changed her diet. She has a bad sweet tooth !!! Too much sugar.
I did tell her, how a lot of my cravings have gone away, because of Met.
Thanks for any help you can give her.

Exclamation

I have been on Met for 2 wks now and I am having a side effect that nobody else seems to be having, or at least not talking about. My head feels like it is in a daze. This is getting so bad that I am stopping Met. I am having a tough time with this decision as I can't contact my OB to find out what else I can do to help with getting preggo. Does anyone know? Has anyone else had the fuzzy head side effect, plus I have blurring vision occasionally.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think I just found out the hard way that Met and soda don't do well together. And I love all the suggestions as I just started Met recently.

I just found out that I have PCOS, and that I am starting the Gluc. I am terrified to take this stuff.

Hello All..I have kind of a weird question about side effects...and wondering if this happens to any one but me...

I am on 500mg of met 2x daily. I take the first dose in the morning with breakfast and usually all is well I have generally NO problems at all...which is considerably different from last year when I started taking met and stopped because of horrible side effects, but I figured I would give it a go this year since I keep gaining weight and the symptoms never seem to get any better.

I take the second dose at night with dinner and usually about 30 minutes after I have taken the pill and mostly finised dinner I get really full, almost miserable sick full and the only thing I can tolerate is water. After the full feeling subsides I get really really lethargic...my body just feels heavy and all I want to do is go to sleep...so of course I go to bed, but when I hit the pillow my body feels better but I am wide awake...this really kind of makes me nervous.

Am I crazy or has anyone else experienced this?
